Angel Studios Acquires ‘Sketch’ Starring Tony Hale, Directed by Seth Worley

Angel Studios Acquires Seth Worley’s “Sketch”for Distribution

Angel Studios, the company acclaimed for its blockbuster “Sound of Freedom,”announced a deal to distribute Seth Worley’s highly anticipated film, “Sketch.”This was officially revealed during the company’s engaging presentation at CinemaCon, held at Caesars Palace on Wednesday morning. The film is set to hit theaters on August 6.

About “Sketch”

As both writer and director, Seth Worley brings to life a unique narrative featuring a stellar cast that includes Tony Hale, D’Arcy Carden, Bianca Belle, and Kue Lawrence. The plot centers around a single father whose life turns upside down when his daughter’s absurdly dark drawings spring to life, wreaking havoc on their small town. The film is produced by Hale alongside Steve Taylor and Dusty Brown.

Critical Acclaim and Reception

“Sketch”premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, earning considerable praise from critics. Michael Rechtshaffen of The Hollywood Reporter lauded the film, stating, “If you were to blend the wide-eyed wonder of a Steven Spielberg with the mischievous spirit of Joe Dante and the vibrant aesthetics of prime Pixar, the result might resemble ‘Sketch,’ an audaciously imaginative debut by Seth Worley. It’s dazzlingly inventive.”

Seth Worley’s Vision

Worley, an established filmmaker with numerous short films, described “Sketch”as a deeply personal project that took him seven years to realize. He elaborated, “I’ve created a film that is entirely me, yet I struggle to encapsulate it in words. Producers have suggested interpretations ranging from ‘The Babadook if it were humorously heartwarming’ to ‘Goosebumps if it were exceptionally good and oddly dark.’ For me, it’s like ‘Inside Out’ meets ‘Jurassic Park.’ The film addresses grieving stigmas and delves into childhood emotions, the shadows they can cast, and our lives following trauma.”

Reflecting on his passion for the project, he added, “This film embodies my childhood and my kids. If I were to create only one film in my lifetime, it would be this one. It’s weird, thrilling, funny, and deeply emotional. I’ve infused enough of myself into the narrative in hopes that viewers will find a piece of themselves within it as well.”
