Andrew Garfield Expresses Desire to Reprise Spider-Man Role: It Would Need to Be “Very Weird” and “Strange”

Andrew Garfield Eager to Return as Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield has made it clear that he is more than willing to don the Spider-Man suit once again. During a recent appearance at the Middle East Film & Comic Con in Abu Dhabi, Garfield shared his enthusiasm for the iconic Marvel character, expressing his fondness for the role.

In an Instagram video, the actor revealed, “I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I would want to do something very strange, unique, offbeat, and surprising.” He noted the creative possibilities inspired by the animated Spider-Verse films, saying, “Those films show that you can honor the character in so many different ways through the multiverse.”

Garfield originally portrayed Spider-Man in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 follow-up. Unfortunately, he did not complete his planned trilogy due to Sony’s decision to abandon the third installment. Following Garfield’s departure, Tom Holland took over the role, starting with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.

In an exciting twist, Garfield reprised his role as Spider-Man alongside Tobey Maguire in the hit film Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021. Despite initially denying participation in the film, Garfield described the experience as “healing” during an interview with Esquire in October.

When asked about a potential return to the role, Garfield confidently stated, “For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing. If it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before—something unique, odd, exciting, that you can sink your teeth into.”

With Garfield’s openness to return, fans of Spider-Man are left speculating about the exciting possibilities that may lie ahead in the ever-expanding spider-verse.
