Empowering Female Filmmakers: Archer Film Festival Takes Center Stage
As the film industry grapples with significant challenges related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, notable figures such as actress Amy Adams, filmmaker Karyn Kusama, and Telluride Film Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger are set to engage with aspiring filmmakers in a meaningful discussion on representation. This notable event will take place during a student-led Q&A panel at the Archer Film Festival on April 11 at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles.
This interactive session aims to address vital questions regarding the advancement of women in the film industry, focusing on creating impactful changes both in front of and behind the camera. In alignment with the event’s goals, the Archer School for Girls is hosting this panel specifically for its students.
About the Archer Film Festival
The Archer Film Festival is a unique initiative that is entirely planned and executed by students, aimed at empowering female filmmakers and elevating the voices of those who are typically underrepresented in the industry. In addition to the valuable Q&A session, the festival will showcase a selection of finalist films. This year, the festival received over 300 student-produced submissions from participants in more than 30 countries.

Amy Adams, who has recently appeared in the film Nightbitch directed by Marielle Heller, is known for her extensive body of work that includes acclaimed films such as Junebug, Arrival, and American Hustle. Adams’ versatility and talent continue to shine, as she is also set to feature in upcoming projects like Klara and the Sun and the anticipated Cape Fear reboot.
Karyn Kusama is another prominent figure in this panel, having recently directed the first two episodes of AMC’s horror anthology series The Terror: The Devil In Silver, slated to premiere in 2025. Kusama is also known as the executive producer of Showtime’s Yellowjackets and has an impressive directing portfolio that includes Destroyer, The Invitation, and Jennifer’s Body.
Julie Huntsinger has been at the helm of the Telluride Film Festival for 18 years, contributing significantly to its legacy. With a career that began in 1993 alongside the late Tom Luddy at American Zoetrope, Huntsinger holds membership in prestigious organizations such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
