Aimee Lou Wood Responds to SNL’s Parody of The White Lotus

Aimee Lou Wood, who has gained recognition as a standout performer in the third season of The White Lotus, recently addressed the controversy surrounding a parody sketch aired on Saturday Night Live (SNL). The famed NBC show issued an apology following the sketch that humorously depicted the British actress.

The SNL Sketch: A Spoof on The White Lotus

The pre-recorded segment titled The White POTUS took aim at Mike White’s acclaimed HBO series, cleverly reimagining characters from the third season—set in Thailand—by intertwining them with prominent figures from Donald Trump’s administration. In this comedic twist, James Austin Johnson impersonated Trump, while Chloe Fineman portrayed Melania Trump, channeling Parker Posey’s character with a distinctly Southern drawl.

Guest host Jon Hamm also joined the fun, parodying Robert F. Kennedy Jr. alongside Wood’s character, Chelsea, portrayed by Sarah Sherman. Although Sherman had limited dialogue, her lines included the quirky comment, “Fluoride, what’s that? Oh look, a monkey!”

Aimee Lou Wood Addresses the Backlash

Taking to Instagram, Wood sought to clarify some misleading rumors surrounding a comment made by an HBO staff member who allegedly called her unattractive. She elaborated on previous remarks from an interview before addressing the SNL sketch, stating, “But whilst in an honest mood — I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo.” Wood mentioned that she would consider removing the post later.

In a follow-up, the 31-year-old actress expressed gratitude for the supportive messages she received from fans who shared her feelings about the sketch. “It’s a shame because I enjoyed watching it a couple of weeks ago,”she reflected, emphasizing the importance of humor but calling for a more thoughtful approach: “Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a [more clever], more nuanced, less cheap way?”

Critique on Accents and Apologies

Wood didn’t hold back when critiquing Sherman’s portrayal of her accent in the sketch, remarking, “At least get the accent right, seriously. I respect accuracy, even if it’s mean,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Shortly after her initial remarks, Aimee Lou Wood updated her followers with news of receiving apologies from SNL; however, she did not specify who within the show had reached out. The Hollywood Reporter has contacted SNL for further comments on the incident.
