As more Gen 9 Pokemon are added to Pokemon Go it’s only natural that the starters would make their debuts. One of the starters added was Quaquaval and this is its best movement plus a breakdown of whether the Dancer Pokemon is even worth using.
The Generation 9 starters were first added to Pokemon in September 2023 in the ‘A Paldean Adventure‘ event. In addition to the starters, this event also saw Lechonk added, the popular pig that quickly proved a fan favorite in Scarlet & Violet.
Though all of the starters got players interested it was the arrival of Quaxly and its evolutions that raised the most questions, with trainers curious if it would be viable.
Some time has passed now and Quaquaval’s place in the PvP meta has long since settled, but is the Dancer Pokemon good and what is its best movement?

Quaquaval best moveset in Pokemon Go
The best moveset for Quaquaval in Pokemon Go is Water Gun as its Fast Attack paired with both Liquidation and Close Combat as its Charged Attacks.
Water Gun is Quaquaval’s best Fast Attack with the only other option being Wing Attack. Though not a terrible move in its own right, Wing Attack does not benefit from STAB giving Water Gun the edge given its faster charge time.
Similarly, Liquidation is Quaquaval’s strongest Water-type Charged Attack and Close Combat is the Dancer Pokemon’s only Fighting-type move. This combination not only takes full advantage of STAB but also gives Quaquaval better coverage to deal with Normal, Steel, Ice, and Dark types.
All moves Quaquaval can learn in Pokemon Go
Quaquaval has two Fast Attacks and four Charged Attacks available in Pokemon Go that offer coverage for the expected Water and Fighting-type moves but also Flying-type moves.
Here are all the moves Quaquval can learn in Pokemon Go:
Quaquaval Fast Attacks
- Water Gun (Water/STAB)
- Wing Attack (Flying)
Quaquaval Charged Attacks
- Aerial Ace (Flying)
- Aqua Jet (Water/STAB)
- Close Combat (Fighting/STAB)
- Liquidation (Water/STAB)
Is Quaquaval any good in Pokemon Go?
Though unextraordinary, Quaquaval is an okay option for PvP thanks to its unique moveset and rare typing. It’s unlikely to make any moves in the Master League anytime soon but is at least a passable option in both the Great League and Ultra League.
PVPoke ranks Quaquaval #379 in the Great League and #234 in the Ultra League as of February 2024. Most notably, this ranks it far below Poliwrath who shares the same typing and is amongst one of the best Pokemon in PvP.
As for Master League, Quaquaval ranks as low as #211 which effectively makes it worthless given the amount of Legendary, Mythical, and Water-type powerhouses that dominate that league like Palkia, Kyogre, and Gyarados.
In PvE, Quaquaval is a serviceable Water-type that can be used to take down Fire, Ground, and Rock-type Raids. However, it is somewhat of a glass cannon and several other options outperform it.
