On January 19, various topics revolving around IVE’s latest English single, “All Night” , started to emerge on Chinese platform Weibo.
However, instead of focusing on the music, many netizens drew their attention to Jang Won-young‘s “cringey expressions” and criticized the female idol. According to these people, these “mean girl” expressions used to work and set Jang Won-young apart, but they have gotten “too much” in the recent MV.
Additionally, other members of IVE seems to be “learning” from Jang Won-young, leading to them doing the “cringey expressions” as well, said the netizens.
Nevertheless, fans of Jang Won-young insist that they prefer the female idol’s diverse expression, stating that they are suitable for on-stage performances.
Below are some comments from netizens:
- IVE fits best with their royal and feminine concept, their expressions for the cooler concepts like this are so cringey… It’s the same with “Baddie” and “Kitsch”
- Except for Yunjin, these cringey expression are spreading through all members of IVE LOL
- Jang Won-young has always been like this. In fact, what you guys call “cringey expressions” are what made her popular. I much prefer this than stone-faced idol whose face muscles don’t move at all on stage
- These expressions are only cringey if you watch no one but Jang Won-young for a while. They are effective as hell in this concept
