BTS’ Jin Opens Up on ECHO and Future Concerts During Red Velvet’s Young Street
On May 17, BTS member Jin made a guest appearance on Red Velvet’s radio show, *Young Street*, where he discussed a myriad of topics following the launch of his second solo album, ECHO. The conversation covered the creative process behind the album, insights into the songs, and his forthcoming plans for solo concerts.
Insights on the Album’s Title Track
During the interview, Jin shared an intriguing perspective about the title track, “Don’t Say You Love Me.” Initially, he was reluctant to have it lead the album, expressing that its style diverged from the direction he envisioned for ECHO. He elaborated on how he ultimately came to embrace the song:
“Actually, Don’t Say You Love Me wasn’t the title track that I was pushing for. There was another song I was pushing for. But I said I would think about it at home, and I listened to this song for 3 days, and in the end, this song was the easiest to get excited and easy.”
He further noted:
“And as an easy-listening song, I thought this song was the best song for a title track. I’m very, very grateful the expert did a good job convincing me. I think if some time had passed, I probably might have asked for this song to be the title track.”
Jin Addresses Language Choices and Fan Engagement
On the topic of language, Wendy of Red Velvet inquired why all of Jin’s title tracks have been in English. He explained that reaching a global audience is important to him:
“As there are a lot of people who listen to the music for me and what I can express…and yes I have a lot of international fans. There are also a lot of Korean fans, but it was decided that this song sounded better in English. But as I was recording the song, I realized that the decision was a mistake.”
Looking Ahead to RUNSEOKJIN EP TOUR
As the discussion shifted to his upcoming solo world tour, dubbed *RUNSEOKJIN EP. TOUR*, Jin expressed his eagerness for audience participation, reminiscing about the electrifying atmosphere at a Coldplay concert where fans sang along passionately. He hopes to replicate that vibrant connection at his own shows.
The Creative Process Behind ECHO
Wendy also probed Jin for insights on the inspiration behind the tracks on ECHO. Jin shared his creative approach:
“I plan a lot of events and when I see a moment, something comes to mind. The fact that only that thing comes to mind is a weakness. Because I don’t go off in another direction. If there is no progress from what I think up, I ask someone else for help. I figure I might get lost here otherwise. It’s a strength and a weakness.”
When talking about his recording technique, Jin revealed that he generally requires three days for recording—two for constructing the song and the final day for adjustments. However, he spent 6-7 days on “Don’t Say You Love Me”due to the challenges of performing in a non-native language.
Following the interview, numerous fans and netizens expressed their curiosity regarding the making of ECHO and the behind-the-scenes experiences shared by Jin.
