Did Tate McRae Wear a MAGA Costume at the 2025 Met Gala? Investigation of the Viral Tweet

A misleading tweet has recently gone viral, alleging that the Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer Tate McRae made a controversial appearance at the 2025 Met Gala dressed in a MAGA-themed costume. This claim originated from a post by Pop Base on the social media platform X on May 5, but it quickly gained traction without any substantiated evidence.

The assertion that Tate McRae donned such an outfit at the Met Gala is completely false. There are no credible reports suggesting her attendance or any attire of this nature.

Moreover, it is worth noting that the account responsible for the original tweet is known for parody content, as indicated in its bio:

“Pop Base is your best source for all parody culture-related entertainment, news, award show coverage, and chart updates.”

The Truth About Tate McRae and the 2025 Met Gala

Despite her status as a trendsetter in the fashion realm, Tate McRae did not attend the 2025 Met Gala, an event known for its elaborate themes and style. The theme for this year’s gathering centered around ‘Tailored for You,’ focusing on menswear and sophisticated tailoring rather than politically-themed costumes.

Furthermore, there is no public record supporting claims that McRae harbors any political alignment with Donald Trump or his MAGA ideology. An article by MSN dated April 4 indicates that McRae has not made any public statements regarding her political affiliations, leaving her stance ambiguous.

Tate McRae’s deep connection to her Canadian roots is undeniable. She frequently performs in Canada, with a notable set of concerts scheduled for August 2025 as part of her Miss Possessive Tour. In a February 2025 interview with Energy 95.3’s Mr. D, she shared her enthusiasm for touring Canada, although she expressed disappointment about not being able to visit Calgary that year.

In another development connected to her career, just five days before the viral tweet, the complete artist lineup was unveiled for the soundtrack of the film F1, which features prominent names like Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, and Rosé from BLACKPINK.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who partners with rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, as they strive to uplift the fictional F1 team Apex Grand Prix (APXGP). Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, the film promises to excite fans and newcomers alike.

Atlantic Records will be releasing the F1 soundtrack, which includes a range of collaborations. Ed Sheeran’s humorous track Drive will be featured, along with contributions from artists like Burna Boy, Roddy Ricch, RAYE, Chris Stapleton, Peggy Gou, and Obongjayar. Noteworthy collaborations also include S*xyy Red and Tiësto’s song OMG!, in addition to Don Toliver and Doja Cat working with OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder on the lead single Lose My Mind.

To promote F1, an event titled F1: The Album was held during the Miami Grand Prix weekend from May 2–4. Attendees had the chance to experience a replica of the APXGP team’s garage, enhancing the connection between the music and the film.

The soundtrack is slated for release on June 27, coinciding with the movie’s U.S. theatrical debut. The film will premiere in Philippine theaters two days earlier, on June 25.

As of now, McRae has not addressed the misinformation regarding the alleged tweet about her Met Gala appearance.
