As RM, the charismatic leader of BTS, also known as Kim Namjoon, approaches the conclusion of his mandatory military service, excitement among fans is palpable. Recently, on April 21, 2025, Namjoon shared a whimsical update on his Instagram, celebrating the 50-day countdown until his discharge. This playful post has sparked a flurry of humorous and heartfelt comments from his devoted fanbase.
In his Instagram story, he shared a screenshot from his military countdown app, Goondori, along with a playful comment that read:
“Veteran, you have 50 days left until your discharge! Have you planned your terminal leave/final vacation?”
This light-hearted reference alluded to the typical leave granted to soldiers as they near the end of their service commitments, showcasing Namjoon’s ability to connect with fans through humor amidst his military duties.
Previously, Namjoon marked significant milestones in his service, including a motivational 100-day countdown post in March with the uplifting statement:
“Mr. Kim Namjoon. You have 100 days until you are discharged! Be strong, you’ll be able to get out soon enough.”
The BTS ARMY responded enthusiastically to his latest update, flooding social media with memes, jokes, and messages of support as they look forward to his return. One fan exclaimed:
“Oh he is packed & all ready to leave!!! I’m sure when there are 10 days left, he’ll be counting backwards like us.”
Responses ranged from light-hearted jests to emotional sentiments, underscoring the collective anticipation for Namjoon’s homecoming and appreciation for his dedication to service.
“I always imagine him leaving at sunrise on that day, as early as possible, he will be at the gates ready to step out. I hope they go pick him up as early as possible. Joonie can’t wait anymore,”a fan expressed.
“Well Joon, we’re sorry for not breaking you out of there. We’re Armys with Army bombs, not real bombs, but hold on a little longer, soon you’re gonna be out,”another shared in jest.
“”Have you planned your terminal leave/final vacation well?”Honey, he has been planning since the day he enlisted,”another fan quipped.
Some fans speculated that Namjoon might have already sent his belongings home, eagerly anticipating the D-day (June 10) for his discharge.
“I think he already sent his stuff home and is just waiting until June 10th. Now he only has his phone, uniform, diary, and seven pairs of underwear with him,”a fan commented.
“COUNTING DOWN THE HOURS AND SECONDS WITH JOON,”eagerly added another fan.
“He’s counting the days more than we are,”another fan observed.
BTS’ RM Military Service: Notable Achievements and Anticipated Return
Namjoon is set to be discharged on June 10, 2025, coinciding with the anticipated completion of military service for fellow BTS member Taehyung (V). He enlisted on December 11, 2023, alongside V, and both completed a demanding five-week basic training program, graduating as elite soldiers.
Exemplifying outstanding conduct during his service, Namjoon was promoted to corporal on August 1, 2024. He shared this achievement with fans via Instagram, posting a screenshot of his military application that confirmed his new rank.
Building on his successes, Namjoon rose to the rank of sergeant by February 1, 2025, announcing this milestone through a heartfelt message on Weverse during Lunar New Year festivities.
While excitement mounts for the group’s reunion, BTS’ management firm, HYBE, indicated that preparations for a comeback will require time. CEO Lee Jae-sang noted ongoing discussions with top composers while emphasizing the need for the artists themselves to take time for deliberation and preparation.
“The BTS members are set to complete their military service by the end of the first half of this year. They will need time for preparation and production before resuming activities. The company is also preparing by discussing with top-tier composers, but the artists (BTS members) themselves need time for deliberation and preparation,” said CEO Lee Jae-sang.
Following Namjoon and Taehyung, BTS members Jimin and Jungkook will complete their military service on June 11, 2025. SUGA is scheduled to finish his alternative service as a social service worker on June 21.
