Nintendo has taken a significant legal step by filing a request in a California court to compel Discord to reveal the identity of the hacker behind the notorious Pokemon Teraleak. The leak not only disclosed extensive information regarding both past and upcoming Pokemon titles but also contained confidential employee data and financial documentation.
Dubbed the Pokemon Teraleak, this incident had major repercussions for the gaming giant. Among the information leaked was the source code for the unreleased project “Pokemon Legends Z-A,”alongside early sprites from classic games such as Pokemon Yellow dating back to 1998, which never made it into the final game.
According to a subpoena document filed with the US District Court for the Northern District of California (as reported by Polygon), Nintendo seeks the identity of the hacker, known by the username “GameFreakOUT.” This individual is accused of disseminating illegally acquired materials with fans on Discord.
