Often hailed as landmark releases in video game history, both DOOM and its sequel have set high standards for the first-person shooter genre, sparking a wave of imitations in the 1990s known as “DOOM clones.”The franchise continues to thrive today, with the original DOOM and DOOM 2 recently combined into a single package, allowing a new generation to experience these foundational titles.
According to the official patch notes, the inclusion of SIGIL 2, which was initially a complimentary expansion for DOOM, now adds significant value to the collection. The original SIGIL was previously included, and its sequel follows suit in this latest update.

Even after more than 30 years since its original release, updates for DOOM and DOOM 2 remain consistent, with the recent addition of multiplayer mod support launched in January punctuating the games’ continued viability. These classics welcome innovations through various mods, and campaigns like SIGIL 2 serve as a fresh opportunity for returning players, particularly for those who have enjoyed these titles multiple times.
Amidst this nostalgia, anticipation is building for DOOM: The Dark Ages, the first major new installment in five years. Announced in mid-2024, this sequel to the 2016 DOOM reboot is set to release on May 15, 2025, making it an exciting prospect for fans.
