Katt’s nearly four-decade-long career showcased his exceptional ability to portray complex characters across both television and film. He began his career with a role in the 1977 television series CHiPs. However, it was his performance in Richard Linklater’s 1993 film Dazed and Confused that catapulted him to stardom, where he skillfully portrayed the fiery and unpredictable Clint Bruno. This intense screen presence became a hallmark of his subsequent roles.

The same year, Katt gained further notoriety portraying the morally complicated character Mr. Senate in the critically acclaimed series Boston Public. Throughout the late 1990s, he solidified his film career with standout performances in The Doom Generation and Strange Days, both released in 1995. He also appeared in the 1997 superhero film Batman & Robin, taking on the role of Spike.

In 2002, Katt delivered a captivating performance in Steven Soderbergh’s experimental film Full Frontal, where he played a self-absorbed actor portraying Adolf Hitler in a fictional play. In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Katt reflected on the frustrations of the industry:

“There’s so much desperation in the air, in Los Angeles especially… I think Stanley Kubrick called the vibe in L.A. a ‘low-level malevolence.’ It eats away at you at some point,”Katt remarked.

During a conversation in 2008 with Todd Gilchrist of IGN Entertainment, Katt elaborated on his unique ability to infuse comedy into serious material:

“I kind of am notorious for bringing a lot of humor to stuff, and not in a scene-stealing way, [but] especially if something is really heavy subject matter I’m kind of like oxygen for a drowning man,”Katt explained.

Apart from his work in film and television, Katt showcased his talent in the gaming industry, voicing Atton Rand in the highly acclaimed 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords. His last screen appearance was in the 2018 Hulu series Casual.

News X World reported on April 13, 2025, that Katt’s death was verified by his legal representative John Sloss of Sloss Law; however, the specific cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
