Today’s installment of Connections presents a unique challenge that isn’t rooted in complexity, but rather in the strategic placement of words meant to mislead players. At first glance, the associations might seem straightforward; however, a closer look reveals that some terms deviate subtly from their expected pairings. To navigate these potential pitfalls and avoid the mistakes I encountered, pay attention to these essential clues.
The central theme centers around the odd one out, wherein one word in a set diverges slightly while still appearing closely related. This concept parallels how a singular term in the Letter Boxed game may cause you to hesitate, as Connections puzzles are designed to prompt second-guessing. As with previous puzzles, you have four attempts to identify four sets of four words before concluding your game.
Today’s Connections Category Hints

As with previous Connections challenges, I approached today’s puzzle by identifying standout words in their respective columns. Some words intuitively offer insight into potential connections, facilitating an advantageous start. Nevertheless, be wary of how words are arranged; this aspect may easily mislead your thought process.
Here are some strategic hints to help you orient yourself as you embark on today’s puzzle:
- A category pertains to words indicating taking something from someone.
- Another category involves terms related to identifying one’s presence in an educational setting.
- A third category focuses on various formats of written language, both digital and physical.
- The final category consists of words associated with specific types of fruit.
To enhance your puzzle-solving experience, consider examining the category names for additional clues. Additionally, if you find yourself stumped on a particular category, spoilers are available to assist you in completing your connections.

NICK | PINCH | SWIPE |
This portion of the puzzle challenged me, as SWIPE was the only term I initially associated with multiple meanings. While I viewed POCKET in a literal sense, NICK and PINCH are colloquial synonyms for theft, which illuminated the overall pattern. Although POCKET emerged as the “odd one out,”the contextual clues from the others clarified the connections.

ABSENT | EXCUSED | LATE | PRESENT |
This aspect of the puzzle was considerably easier for me. Recognizing ABSENT and LATE came quickly to mind, particularly for anyone who has previously been anxious about these statuses in school. Once I identified those two, integrating EXCUSED into the mix was a breeze—though I did take longer to realize that PRESENT referred to a status rather than an actual gift.

GOTHIC | ROMAN | SANS | TYPEWRITER |
Given my experience with writing, I quickly connected GOTHIC, ROMAN, and SANS to well-known fonts like Blackletter Gothic Script, Times New Roman, and Comic Sans. However, I struggled momentarily to categorize TYPEWRITER, which logically fit as it represents a method through which certain fonts are rendered.

CAPER | ELDER | GOOSE | LOGAN |
This part of the puzzle posed the greatest challenge for me due to the difficulty in discerning the pattern. Fortunately, a recent rewatch of Monty Python and the Holy Grail provided the necessary clue to ELDER, reminding me of elderberries from a memorable joke. Armed with that knowledge, I transitioned to GOOSE for gooseberries, LOGAN for loganberries, and CAPER for caperberries in rapid succession.
