Nearly eight years post-launch, DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 has fallen victim to rampant hacking, severely undermining the online gaming experience. The responsibility now rests with EA to restore functionality to this beloved title.
The game was launched in 2017 amidst a storm of controversy, particularly due to its loot box system that restricted access to many iconic Star Wars characters. Although players had the option to unlock these characters through gameplay, the time investment required made it nearly unfeasible. Following substantial community backlash, DICE made necessary adjustments, allowing players to appreciate the game’s mechanics, which received generally favorable reviews. Over the years, this adjustment helped foster a dedicated community around Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Recent discussions on platforms like Reddit and the EA forums have revealed that hackers have significantly disrupted Star Wars Battlefront 2’s online modes, especially Galactic Assault. This infiltration has led to instances where players are unable to spawn, thereby rendering these game modes virtually unplayable. Reports indicate that the situation has escalated, with players struggling to find lobbies free from these issues.

Fortunately, EA appears to acknowledge these hacking challenges. According to a recent news post from the Star Wars Battlefront 2 modding group Kyber, EA has implemented a server-side fix aimed at mitigating some of the hacking exploits affecting the game servers. However, the effectiveness of this fix is still uncertain, as feedback from players on Steam suggests mixed results. As of now, EA has not officially confirmed the deployment of any updates designed to rehabilitate one of the most acclaimed entries in the Star Wars gaming franchise.

Currently, there are no indications that a third installment of Star Wars Battlefront is in development, leaving the series in a peculiar state with a singular entry. Nonetheless, the universe of Star Wars video games is still vibrant, with exciting projects on the horizon. For instance, Respawn and Bit Reactor’s upcoming tactical Star Wars game will debut on April 19, and fans can anticipate the unveiling of the second DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, titled A Pirate’s Fortune, at the forthcoming Star Wars Celebration convention in Japan.
