Yellowjackets Season 3 Finale Review: A Tumultuous Season Culminates in an Exciting Episode 10 That Builds Anticipation for Season 4

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets, season 3, episode 10, “Full Circle!”

Reflections on the Rocky Journey of Yellowjackets Season 3

The latest season of Yellowjackets has proven to be a tumultuous chapter in the series’ narrative. Although the finale left me with mixed feelings, my commitment to the show remains steadfast. After the emotional upheaval caused by Van’s tragic demise in episode 9, “Full Circle”thrusts us back into the gripping intensity that fans have come to expect. Surprisingly, this season’s conclusion leaned more towards excitement than sorrow.

“Full Circle”: A Step Towards Clarity for Season 4

This episode offered some long-awaited revelations for viewers who speculated that Mari was the mysterious pit girl. I was particularly impressed with how aptly the episode embodied its title, providing substantial answers to questions lingering since the pilot episode. This strategic storytelling choice positions the series favorably for a fresh start in the upcoming season. Despite some bumpy storytelling, Yellowjackets appears to be attempting an evolution this season, and I remain optimistic that the finale signals a positive directional shift.

The Balance of Answers and Future Potential

“Full Circle”strikes an intriguing balance, leaving few questions unaddressed while still keeping the door wide open for a fourth season. I’m genuinely excited about the prospect of returning to the Canadian wilderness and intrigued about how the narrative will unfold. Maintaining such tension is challenging, a fact clearly evident from seasons 2 and 3. If the show can capitalize on Nat’s connections to the outside world, it could successfully rekindle the early-season allure.

Disappointing Storytelling Choices Revealed

While I initially suspected Callie to be behind Lottie’s murder, the reveal felt somewhat contrived, particularly as we had limited time to understand her character’s development throughout this season. Instead, a lengthy flashback sequence diluted the impact of what should have been one of the season’s most shocking moments. Both Shauna and Callie exhibit a capacity for violence, yet a more innovative approach could have made the revelation more impactful.

A Mixed Bag of Character Development

This season left many fans—including myself—hoping for a clearer trajectory for the characters, yet the finale didn’t deliver that sense of cohesion. In both the past and present, Shauna has created significant chaos. With Jeff and Callie now absent and Nat’s group making newfound connections, Shauna’s tether to her moral compass seems increasingly tenuous. Regrettably, her grief-driven actions have lost their weight this season, diluting her evolution into a complex antihero.

What Lies Ahead in Season 4?

With her aggressive tactics pushing away others, Shauna’s decisions have driven Tai to seek help from Misty, while Jeff and Callie remain on their own. However, the adults in the present storyline seem to be realizing that ignoring the past is no longer viable. As the wilderness encroaches upon their current lives, the Yellowjackets appear ready to confront that reality. A particularly striking moment in “Full Circle”is Lottie’s acknowledgment of her anticipation for Callie to replace Shauna’s lost bond with the wilderness, hinting at a darker path ahead.

A Shift in Narrative Focus

Season 3 effectively frames Shauna’s story through her diary entries, but I foresee season 4 potentially pivoting the focus onto Callie. Despite Jeff’s protective instincts, the darkness from Shauna’s past looms over Callie—an inevitability the show will have to explore. Yellowjackets season 3 has essentially cleared the slate for the next installment, leaving us hopeful that the series will embrace the depths of the wilderness experience in future narratives.
