South of Midnight offers a rich variety of collectibles, among which tin flips hold a special place. These collectible items, depicted as aluminum siding panels, can be flipped over using Hazel’s Strand Push ability. Your mission is to locate these tin flips throughout each chapter; successfully flipping them will reward you with Floof and various achievements. Keep your eyes peeled for these collectibles during gameplay, as they can frequently be missed.
While exploring the intriguing world of South of Midnight, be prepared for a bit of backtracking. Many collectibles, including the tin flips, can only be obtained by replaying chapters via the Load Game menu. Completing all tin flips across the chapters unlocks the “A Great Southern Tradition”achievement. The initial opportunity to flip tins arises in Chapter 2, once you’ve acquired the Strand Push skill.

Unlocking Strand Push
Chapter 2 marks the beginning of your tin-flipping adventure, featuring four collectible tin flips. As a newcomer to South of Midnight, I initially overlooked the first two, so I encourage you to collect them before using the Strand Push on the cart to jump over to the next area. Failing to do so would require restarting the chapter to retrace your steps.

In Chapter 3, you will learn the wall run technique, vital for navigating the environment. The first tin flip is conveniently located beside a readable collectible at the end of a pier near a gas station. However, be alert for the last tin flip, as it is tucked away in a hidden area behind logs after you perform a wall jump to escape from the ghosts.

This chapter provides three tin flips, which you will encounter after learning the grapple technique. After navigating the churchyard, you will find all three tin flips here: one near a pickup truck and the other two beside gravestones in the cemetery.

Chapter 5 boasts the highest number of tin flips yet, totaling seven! Fortunately, most can be found along the main narrative path, requiring minimal additional exploration. Be sure to check the side of the cell tower, as you might easily miss this tin flip in a hurry.

A Few More for the Collection
With only four tin flips in Chapter 6, this section is comparatively lighter than the previous chapters. The first is near a pier with a green lawn chair, found right after defeating the first set of Haints. Keep an eye out for the second, hidden inside the Old Smokey barn on a ledge once you pass through.
Two others are visible: one near the cottage after clearing the first stigma, and the final one just after completing a long wall run on the green cliffside.

Nine Tin Flips Await!
Chapter 7 introduces the most collectible tin flips yet — a total of nine are dispersed across the chapter. Expect plenty of rivers and moving log platforms; one flip can be found near a friendly bear on a cliff. Make sure to also explore the buildings in Milltown for additional Floof and collectible opportunities. One tin flip can be found on the grocery store’s roof, accessible via a ghost crate to enable climbing.

A Breather with Fewer Tins
After the extensive searches in Chapter 7, Chapter 8 provides a welcome break with only three collectible tin flips. The first is directly along the path after you collect the Red Yarn collectible. The others follow closely along the main route, with the last flip being right after obtaining the storybook.

Chapter 9 Tin Flip Locations
Nine Tins To Collect!
Fittingly, Chapter 9 also features nine tin flips, although some require careful exploration to locate thoroughly. Be sure to check behind the schoolhouse-like building adorned with children’s drawings, where two tin flips await. One is found after hopping over a ledge among sunflowers.
As you ascend the first cavern, you’ll clear a sack and grapple over an opening. Remember to search to your left as you land for another tin flip. Following this, avoid immediately climbing out of the colorful chamber; instead, head left under some rocks to find another hidden flip.

Final Tin Flips in Chapters 11 & 12
Interestingly, Chapter 10 contains no tin flips, so don’t waste time searching for them. However, they reappear in Chapter 11 with just one to find, while Chapter 12 features the last two tin flips. Be aware that Chapters 13 and 14 do not offer any further tin flips, as these segments primarily focus on resolving the storyline. You’ll unlock the “A Great Southern Tradition”achievement when flipping the second flip in Chapter 12.

In total, there are 46 tin flip locations throughout the game. While Chapters 1, 10, 13, and 14 contain no collectible items, the other chapters offer plenty of opportunities to discover these fun items.
