Ne Zha 2: A Celebration of Chinese Animation at the Beijing International Film Festival
“Ne Zha 2,”a monumental achievement in Chinese animation, is set to captivate audiences anew with an exceptional exhibition. The upcoming 15th edition of the Beijing International Film Festival, scheduled from April 18-26, will showcase 150 hand-painted posters created by the film’s director, Yang Yu (also known as Jiaozi).
In a remarkable feat, Enlight Media has successfully distributed “Ne Zha 2″across Europe. With its release during the Chinese New Year in January, the film has already shattered records, accumulating over $2 billion in China alone, securing its position as the highest-grossing animated film in cinematic history. Following its North American debut on February 14, the movie has significantly outperformed expectations for Chinese blockbusters in Western markets.
Organizers of the Beijing festival remarked that the event aims to “promote the milestone breakthrough”for the Chinese animation sector, highlighting the film’s ongoing “box office miracle.”They noted, “The Beijing International Film Festival has always been committed to building a connection between filmmakers and audiences. The hand-painted poster exhibition for ‘Ne Zha 2’ is our way of giving back to both the industry and the numerous fans of animated films.”
In addition to the artistic display, the festival will feature a dedicated merchandising area offering an array of products, including plush dolls, picture books, and keychains, further enhancing the experience for festival-goers.

A Deeper Dive into Ne Zha 2
“Ne Zha 2″presents a creative reimagining of ancient Chinese mythology, drawing inspiration from a renowned 16th-century novel. This sequel builds upon the story of its predecessor, “Ne Zha”(2019), which previously held the title of China’s most lucrative animated film. In the original, the titular character, Ne Zha, emerges as an unlikely hero and the reincarnation of a demon, striving to overcome fate and protect his village. The sequel elevates the narrative, as Ne Zha confronts new challenges in his quest against the corrupt deities and demons governing the heavens.
