Wonder Woman has seen a resurgence in popularity within the DC Comics universe, fueled by Tom King’s compelling ongoing series and the widely acclaimed Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson. However, it’s the prospect of legendary writer Greg Rucka returning to the character that has fans buzzing with excitement. Now, the only lingering question is when DC will make this much-anticipated comeback official.
Recently, Rucka engaged with fans during an “Ask Me Anything”session hosted by League of Comic Geeks, where he shared insights into his extensive body of work, which includes titles such as Lazarus, The Old Guard, and Black Magick, alongside his celebrated Wonder Woman series.

When prompted by a fan with the question, “If you could write for Wonder Woman again, would you do it?” Rucka enthusiastically confirmed his desire. His response ignited a wave of excitement, particularly when he elaborated on his vision for the character.

Rucka’s reply to the inquiry about his interest in returning to Wonder Woman was an exuberant, “In a hot second, absolutely. I adore Diana; there are countless stories I didn’t get to explore with her. While returning to a title can be questionable, I would jump at the chance.” His genuine enthusiasm illustrates a deep-seated passion for Wonder Woman, indicating he has a wealth of fresh storylines ready to be told.
Both Rucka and the fans are eagerly anticipating his potential return to the character. Currently, Tom King is in the midst of his narrative arc with the Amazonian warrior, but with no clear announcements about successors to King’s tale, there remains hope that Rucka could step in and take over once King completes his storyline, a scenario most fans would eagerly welcome.

Greg Rucka’s tenure on Wonder Woman is widely acknowledged as one of the most illustrious periods in the character’s history, especially his initial run in the early 2000s, which concluded in 2006. His return during DC’s Rebirth was also met with acclaim. A hallmark of Rucka’s storytelling has been his emphasis on Diana’s role as a diplomat and ambassador of Themyscira—a narrative choice that remains lauded by fans for redefining her as a nuanced and morally-driven leader. Given Rucka’s proven ability to enrich Wonder Woman’s character, a new chapter under his pen would undoubtedly amplify her complexities.
