Samuel Goldwyn Films Secures North American Rights for Cold Storage

In an exciting development for the film industry, Samuel Goldwyn Films has officially acquired the North American distribution rights for Cold Storage, a sci-fi comedy directed by Jonny Campbell. The announcement came on Monday, revealing a collaboration with the production and sales powerhouse Studiocanal.

Star-Studded Cast

This feature film boasts a talented lineup, featuring Joe Keery from Stranger Things, Georgina Campbell of Barbarian, and Sosie Bacon known for Smile. Also lending their star power are esteemed actors Vanessa Redgrave (Mission: Impossible), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), and Liam Neeson (Taken).

A Unique Narrative

Directed by Campbell, who has a notable history with projects like Dracula, Cold Storage is adapted from a script penned by David Koepp, renowned for his work on classics such as Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible. This film marks the transition of Koepp’s debut novel into a cinematic experience, with Koepp also serving as a producer alongside Gavin Polone, known for Zombieland and Panic Room.

Plot Overview

The film follows Teacake and Naomi, portrayed by Keery and Campbell, who are employees at a self-storage facility built atop a decommissioned U.S. military base. Their mundane night shift takes a disastrous turn when a parasitic fungus, previously sealed away by the government, escapes from the facility’s lower sublevels. As temperatures rise underground, this potent microorganism rapidly mutates, unleashing horrifying, brain-controlling terrors upon all living beings in the vicinity.

To combat this looming threat, Teacake and Naomi team up with a seasoned retired bioterror operative, played by Neeson, in a desperate struggle to contain the outbreak and safeguard humanity from potential extinction.

Theatrical Release Plans

Samuel Goldwyn Films is poised to unveil Cold Storage with a widespread theatrical release planned for later this year, promising an entertaining mix of humor and horror.

Negotiation Details

The acquisition deal was successfully negotiated by Miles Fineburg on behalf of Samuel Goldwyn Films. The Studiocanal team included Chloe Marquet, head of international sales, Charlotte Lopez, SVP of international sales, and Sophie Leuthreau, who oversees business and legal affairs for international distribution.
