The eagerly anticipated release of GTA 6 is now just a few months away, and excitement continues to build since the unveiling of its first trailer in 2023. Although there are whispers of a staggering $100 price tag, analysts remain optimistic, forecasting that this next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series is set to eclipse previous sales records. Notably, Craig Mazin, the showrunner of The Last of Us, has made bold predictions regarding the game’s potential success.
Craig Mazin Predicts Unprecedented Sales for GTA 6
In a report published by Variety on April 3, 2025, Mazin expressed his belief that the sales figures for GTA 6 may rival even the most sold book in history—the Bible. This statement highlights the level of anticipation surrounding the game within the entertainment community.
According to Mazin, Hollywood is closely monitoring the upcoming release of GTA 6, as he remarked:
“I think Hollywood will be very carefully watching what happens with ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ [this fall] because I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and say that ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ will be the largest selling piece of media ever — not including the Bible.”
Additionally, Mazin referenced the significant time elapsed since the launch of GTA 5 in 2013, emphasizing the intricate development process that goes into creating such a blockbuster title:
“I’m saying motion-picture medium of any kind. And ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ came out in 2013. The size of these things requires time. And people are getting used to an interesting combination of handmade, super-attentive method of making things married to size, which again, makes things harder to do.”
Currently, the Bible holds the Guinness World Record for the most widely distributed book, with estimates ranging from 5 to 7 billion copies sold, resulting in an annual printing rate of approximately 80 million. While Mazin did not predict that GTA 6 would surpass these figures, the game’s potential sales could make it the highest-grossing media release following the Bible.
Supporting Mazin’s optimistic forecast, recent analysis suggests that GTA 6 could generate an astonishing $3.2 billion in revenue within its first year on the market.
This highly anticipated title is set to be released later this year on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Fans are on the lookout for Rockstar Games to announce a specific release date in the near future, likely coinciding with the launch of a second trailer.
