As he navigates his newfound direction alongside a personal mentor, fans are eager to witness the rebirth of an iconic character in the X-Men universe.
In X-Men #14 (2025), penned by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Ryan Stegman and JP Mayer, Cyclops leads his team on a mission that commands their compassion—a search for a missing girl who might possess mutant abilities, lost in the depths of the woods.
This mission marks a significant change for the X-Men. Previously, they dismissed the girl due to her human appearance. However, this time, they’re determined to rescue her, enlisting even Kid Omega—typically known for his harsh anti-human sentiments and brash ego. Remarkably, he is beginning to rise above his longstanding tendencies.
Kid Omega is Finally Embracing Xavier’s Ideals
Kid Omega, also known as Quinten Quire, has historically been one of the most formidable psychics in the Marvel Universe, but his arrogance often alienated readers. Debuting in New X-Men #134 (2002), created by Grant Morrison and Keron Grant, he was initially portrayed as a brilliant student of Charles Xavier. Over time, however, his character veered dangerously away from these foundational ideals, adopting increasingly extreme and sometimes violent viewpoints. This culminated in the infamous X-Men Schism, where he publicly exposed the worst secrets of global leaders via a psychic assault.
Despite this dark backdrop, Quire’s trajectory began shifting on Krakoa, where he fought back against the corruption within the mutant nation. He successfully confronted and eliminated one of Krakoa’s most troubling characters—Beast. Now, rather than continuing on a path influenced by Magneto’s bitterness, Kid Omega has begun walking in the lighter shadows of Cyclops, actively participating in the search for the missing girl without dissent. After years of resisting Charles Xavier’s visionary dream, he is now starting to truly embrace it.

Scott Summers Can Be Both Militant and Inspirational
Kid Omega’s journey has been riddled with personal tragedies, including the loss of loved ones and repeated encounters with death. These hardships paved the way for his initial adoption of a darker ideology. A pivotal figure in his ongoing evolution has been Cyclops. Quire has consistently mirrored Scott Summers’s character arc, even when he diverged from his mentor’s intentions. Remarkably, in recent narratives, Quire has overcome his disenchantment with Xavier’s philosophy, finding renewed hope and purpose in potentially reshaping the future.
Despite the allure of Magneto’s ideology, Kid Omega has chosen a more constructive path by forming a partnership with Cyclops, who serves as both a mentor and friend. Interestingly, Cyclops and Kid Omega share many similarities: both were prodigies under Xavier’s guidance, faced immense expectations, and wrestled with their roles after the decline of Xavier’s vision and the Krakoa project. Their mutual experiences have forged a connection, with Quire even affectionately adopting Wolverine’s nickname for Summers. If Scott Summers is capable of setting aside his pain for growth, so, too, can Kid Omega—an inspiring signal that he is indeed on the right track.
Once regarded as one of the most insufferable characters in the X-Men universe, Kid Omega is now poised for a renaissance, championing a newfound ideology that seeks coexistence between mutants and humans.
