‘SNL’ Parodies Trump’s Tariff Strategy with Mike Myers Reprising His Role as Elon Musk

Trump’s Tariff Plan Gets the SNL Treatment

This past Saturday, Saturday Night Live (SNL) didn’t shy away from poking fun at President Donald Trump’s ambitious tariff strategy, which recently caused a significant decline in global stock markets.

The latest cold open from the NBC sketch comedy series kicked off with a narration that playfully criticized Trump’s economic vision. “On Wednesday, President Trump gave a speech in the Rose Garden announcing his economic vision for America, including tariffs against almost every country we do business with,” the narrator began. “And like everything else so far in his presidency, it was a total home run. We go now to a presentation of Trump’s historically awesome speech,” they added.

Trump’s Tariff Speech Parody

As the scene transitioned, James Austin Johnson, in character as Trump, delivered a humorous impersonation of the president discussing the tariff plan. “My favorite word, tariff, which of course is short for terrific idea,” he exclaimed, claiming that tariffs are “the backbone of my incredible plan for our economy.”

Johnson’s portrayal included a satirical remark on the complexity of the tariff figures. “It’s actually even better than a plan because it’s a series of random numbers,” he quipped. “Like the numbers on the computer screen in Severance. No idea what the hell they mean, but I know what the numbers mean, OK? They mean we’re gonna make America wealthy again.”

Special Guest Appearances

The cold open featured notable guest appearances, including Mike Myers reprising his role as Elon Musk, who joined Trump on stage to comment on the speech.

Additionally, Jack Black, known for his role in A Minecraft Movie, returned to host SNL for his fourth time, while the musical lineup included renowned artists Elton John and Brandi Carlile.

Stay tuned for more updates and reactions as the weekend unfolds.
