“August 28th Comeback?” — BTS Moments Video Timeline Sparks Fan Speculation Online

On April 3, 2025, BIGHIT MUSIC unveiled new content titled BTS 7 Moments exclusively for official ARMY members who hold a Weverse digital membership. This latest offering, available for purchase, quickly captured the attention of fans, leading to widespread speculation about a possible comeback for the globally acclaimed group.

The released material included seven distinct video snippets, each lasting 8 minutes and 28 seconds. Many fans interpreted this specific duration as a significant clue, suggesting a potential comeback date of August 28 (8/28), indicating the highly anticipated reappearance of BTS after a three-year hiatus.

Additionally, the content showcased a striking image of an iPhone featuring J-Hope’s red wallpaper from HOPE ON THE STAGE, timestamped “June 28, 9:41 PM.” This detail ignited further conjecture among fans that all seven members might perform together during an encore show in Seoul on that date. J-Hope’s solo world tour is slated to wrap up at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka on June 1, 2025.

Strategic Timing: Military Service and Comeback Speculation

This theory appears reasonable considering the timing of the members’ mandatory military service, which is expected to conclude by mid-2025. Notably, Namjoon, Taehyung, Jimin, SUGA, and Jungkook are scheduled to return by June 21, 2025, paving the way for a late August project.

On March 17, 2025, BTS officially announced the BTS 7 Moments collection, which serves as an archival representation of their journey throughout 2022 and 2023. This project compiles both group and solo activities, offering fans a detailed glimpse into the experiences of RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

Fans React: A Wave of Anticipation

The mere possibility of a comeback in 2025 has sent fans into a frenzy. A notable tweet from a fan expressed the anticipation shared by many:

“August 28th comeback??????”

Other fans contributed to the enthusiasm, recalling that the group had promised new content to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their trilogy album series, HYYH (Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa), also known as The Most Beautiful Moment in Life or Youth. One fan reminded others:

“Don’t forget HYYH 10th anniversary project is this year,”

Further speculation included thoughts on an encore performance featuring all members, with one fan hypothesizing:

“NO. CAUSE WHAT IF ON HOPE ON THE STAGE ENCORE, ALL BTS MEMBERS WILL PERFORM MIC DROP??”

Additionally, others projected the announcement of some new music, suggesting that a full-fledged album release within one month post-military discharge may not be realistic. A fan noted:

“I don’t think they’ll have their comeback with new album this year. They’ll need to start a new musical era and narrative.”

Amid these discussions, many also pointed out logistical concerns regarding the proposed dates for any potential comeback. For instance,:

“June 28th this year is not on a Wednesday, and I don’t think the ‘Wednesday’ was unintentional.”

“August 28th is a Thursday… BTS comebacks are always on Fridays.”

HYBE’s Cautious Approach to BTS’ Future

Despite the excitement among fans, HYBE, BTS’s management company, has maintained a cautious stance regarding the group’s potential return. In November 2024, during an investor briefing, HYBE’s CFO, Lee Kyung-joon, revealed:

“We are currently in discussions with the members about activities in 2026. While a full group comeback would generate considerable revenue, we expect it will not account for as high a share of our earnings as in the past, as our other artists and new ventures are also contributing to growth.”

This statement indicates that while a comeback in 2025 is a consideration, it has not yet been officially confirmed. Furthermore, Bang Si-hyuk, HYBE’s founder, indicated in March 2023 that planning for a reunion in 2025 was still under consideration without a definitive timeline.

As of October 2024, J-Hope became the second BTS member to complete his military service, following Jin’s discharge in June 2024. The remaining members will finish their service as follows: Namjoon and Taehyung by June 10, Jimin and Jungkook on June 11, and SUGA by June 21.
