Helldivers 2 Developers Acknowledge Bug in Popular Weapon

Overview

  • The Eruptor weapon in Helldivers 2 has encountered a bug rather than being nerfed, according to a support agent.
  • Arrowhead Game Studios’ community manager clarified that the Eruptor was mistakenly considered overpowered due to a glitch, but it is now operating as intended.
  • The development team is actively investigating the ongoing performance issues with the Eruptor and is not satisfied with the current situation.

In a recent update, a support representative for Helldivers 2 clarified that the Eruptor weapon has not been subject to a nerf in the latest patch but is instead plagued by a bug. This revelation followed numerous player complaints logged through support tickets about the Eruptor’s unexpected behavior. However, the clarification sparked further discussion when Arrowhead’s community manager stepped in, asserting after the fact that the initial agent had erred in their assessment. Historically, some bugs in Helldivers 2 have added humorous twists to the gameplay experience, but recent weapon adjustments have left many players feeling perplexed and frustrated.

Launched in early 2024 to enthusiastic reviews, Helldivers 2 has been celebrated for its intense confrontations with the Terminids and Automatons, alongside its signature satirical take on patriotism. Recently, a significant update, referred to as a Major Order, transported players back to Malevelon Creek, hinting at an imminent uprising by the Automatons based on developer teasers. Unfortunately, players will be unable to effectively deploy the Eruptor until further adjustments are made.

A player by the username p_visual shared an email screenshot on the Helldivers subreddit, illustrating their concerns regarding the Eruptor’s malfunctioning shrapnel pattern in correspondence with Arrowhead support. The email highlighted that the weapon’s shrapnel dispersion was behaving erratically, directing its fire towards the player instead of following the intended trajectory outlined in the patch notes. Similar complaints emerged about a range bug affecting the game’s grenade launcher. After some communication, a support agent confirmed that this issue had been resolved, initially suggesting it was not a nerf. However, the situation became more convoluted when the community manager interjected, clarifying the weapon was indeed “overperforming due to a glitch”and assured players that it is now aligned with the developers’ original design, which does include player-targeted shots.

Current Performance Issues with Helldivers 2’s Eruptor

Unlike earlier experiences where players enjoyed quirky bugs, like the one that created an exceptionally powered weapon by combining the Grenade Launcher and Diligence Counter Sniper, the community has been less amused by the Eruptor’s current state. Many players are questioning why the weapon was perceived as overpowered initially, and the adjustments made have led to more frequent accidental eliminations of teammates. Fortunately, the community manager has reassured players that the development team is aware of the grievances and is equally discontent with the Eruptor’s current functionality.

Arrowhead has consistently upheld an open dialogue with its player community, demonstrating commitment to both quality content and timely bug fixes. Nonetheless, CEO Shams Jorjani has remained reticent about the future content roadmap for Helldivers 2.
