Yvonne Orji was born into an Igbo family on December 2, 1983, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She emigrated to the United States during her childhood and grew up in Laurel, Maryland, later relocating to Lititz, Pennsylvania.
She attended Linden Hall, an all-girls boarding school in Pennsylvania, before pursuing her higher education at George Washington University. Orji graduated with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and a master’s degree in public health.
Despite her parents’ aspirations for her to pursue a more conventional career, Orji chose to follow her passion for comedy. Her journey in the comedy realm began in graduate school, where she showcased her talent in a beauty pageant’s talent segment.
