“Chris O’Donnell as Buck’s Cousin? Oliver Stark Unveils His 9-1-1: Nashville Crossover Concept”

The popular series 9-1-1 continues to thrive following its transition to ABC, with the eighth season currently airing. The upcoming episode titled “Invisible”is scheduled for Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. ET. Notably, the franchise is expanding with a new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, which received a straight-to-series order from the network as reported in February 2025.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Oliver Stark, known for his role as Buck, expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of his character interacting with the Nashville spinoff. He playfully suggested that Chris O’Donnell’s character could be Buck’s cousin, creating a compelling reason for Buck to visit Nashville. Although a prior collaboration involving Stark in the upcoming series Doctor Odyssey did not materialize, he remains eager to explore further crossovers within the 9-1-1 universe. Here’s what he had to say:

ScreenRant: 9-1-1 is getting another spinoff. Would you be interested in having Buck go over to Nashville?

Oliver Stark: Yeah, let’s go! I feel like Buck would have a lot of fun in Nashville. I saw they cast Chris O’Donnell, could be Buck’s cousin. I’m putting that out there. I could pay a visit to him in Nashville and find myself stumbling down Broadway. Yeah, I would love that. Dr. Odyssey didn’t quite work out, so ship me off to Nashville, and I’ll be there.

A New Addition to the Franchise

9-1-1: Nashville is under the creative guidance of renowned producers Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani, with contributions from Brad Falchuk and Angela Bassett. Serving as the third installment in the 9-1-1 franchise, this new series follows the success of the original and 9-1-1: Lone Star. Importantly, a fourth show exists in this universe: Doctor Odyssey, where Bassett’s character Athena Grant made a special appearance during a crossover event.

Leading the Nashville series is Chris O’Donnell, portraying Captain Don Sharpe. His character is depicted as a “rugged fire captain and rodeo rider”who manages the busiest firehouse in Nashville alongside his cherished son. The character’s complex persona is highlighted by his role as a devoted family man with a few secrets of his own.

While 9-1-1: Nashville does not yet have a confirmed premiere date, it is anticipated to debut during the 2025–2026 television season.
