Influencer Lindsay Dewey recently opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her 22-month-old son, Reed, who tragically died on February 17, 2025. The toddler’s death resulted from a large mirror falling on him, prompting Dewey to share detailed accounts of the incident on Instagram to raise awareness about the dangers associated with household items.
In her Instagram stories, Dewey explained that Reed was interacting with a suction cup bowl, attaching it to the mirror and pulling it back. Unfortunately, this action caused the mirror to topple over onto him.
Despite immediate medical assistance, Reed succumbed to his injuries.
“To make a long story short, apparently Reed had one of his suction cup bowls and stuck it on the mirror and was pulling it ‘back and forth’ to pry it off (we’re assuming) and he pulled the mirror down on himself,”she shared.

These stories can still be found in Dewey’s Instagram highlights under the tab labeled “Awareness.”
Legacy of Giving: Reed’s Organ Donation
On the day of the tragic accident, Dewey was preparing dinner while Reed played nearby with his Magna-Tiles. While the suction cup wasn’t in his hands at the moment, he was known for frequently playing with bowls and cups. As she recounted:
“I never even heard him playing by/with the mirror. Until I heard it fall and then within 5 seconds I lifted it off of him.”
She described the mirror as a “heavy-duty”item that many families may have. It was leaned against the wall and secure enough that neither she nor her husband, Eric, felt the need to anchor it, especially since the manufacturer’s instructions didn’t mandate it, although it was suggested as an option.
Upon lifting the mirror, Dewey found the suction cup still attached and initially felt a moment of relief when she noticed Reed was not in immediate distress. However, she soon realized something was seriously wrong:
“The second I lifted it up I looked at him to see if he was ok and he was laying there eyes open but not crying and I felt relieved thinking he must’ve been okay just in shock or something… but no… he was not the Reed I knew.”
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Lindsay reached out to her husband and called emergency services, who quickly transported Reed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he had sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).
In her posts, Dewey described Reed’s condition, detailing that he exhibited limited pupil response and struggled with basic life functions. Despite the efforts to save him, the 22-month-old passed away a few days later. In a poignant act of love, his organs were donated to five recipients, encapsulating her belief:
“If he doesn’t get his miracle, he will become one.”
As a self-identified “protective mom,”Dewey emphasized the extensive safety measures they had implemented within their home, from childproof locks on windows and doors to securely anchoring large furniture. However, on the day of the incident, a chair that usually sat in front of the mirror had been moved, leading to the tragic accident.
“There were so many details that led up to this being a perfect storm. All in all, just a tragic unexpected accident. That we can never take back,”Lindsay Dewey remarked.
Dewey characterized the event as a “freak accident”that could have affected any family, advising parents to remain vigilant about suction toys and to secure heavy items in their homes to prevent such tragedies.
In honor of Reed, an Idaho-based clothing company called Little Hunter’s Wife has launched a clothing line titled “Remembering Reed,”with proceeds from sales designated to support Lindsay and Eric Dewey during this tragic time. As of now, there are no further updates from Dewey.
