“Morgan Wallen Capitalizes on Controversy” – Online Reactions to His Merch Launch After SNL Walkout

Morgan Wallen, a prominent figure in country music, has recently unveiled a line of merchandise inspired by his widely-discussed walkout during an episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL). On April 1, 2025, fans could find baseball caps and t-shirts featuring the phrase “Get Me to God’s Country” on his official website, a slogan taken from a viral Instagram Story.

Wallen’s exit from the March 29 episode of SNL caught viewers’ attention as he was seen departing past the camera while credits rolled. This moment sparked a range of opinions online, drawing sharp criticism from some while others came to his defense.

The situation escalated when Wallen shared a photo on his Instagram Story showing a private jet on the runway, captioned with “Get Me to God’s Country.” Many interpreted this as his non-verbal commentary on his disillusionment with New York City, expressing a longing to return to his roots in Tennessee.

Following the launch of his new merchandise, social media once again buzzed with varied reactions. For instance, user @PopTrendHQ remarked on Pop Crave’s post about the merchandise alongside a picture of Wallen.

“Okay so this man knows how to capitalize on a controversy,” the user observed.

This prompted further discussion, with many participating in the conversation. One user declared, “Oh yeah, this was definitely planned. Or he just finds the SNL cast insufferable.” Others expressed skepticism regarding the merchandise’s appeal, with one user asserting, “Mind you, nobody is buying that.”

“Feel like this was premeditated now lol,” wrote another social media user.

“The grift never ends,” remarked another individual.

“Morgan Morgan Morgan tisk tisk,” commented yet another user.

“How to ruin a joke made about you,” someone added.

“This is everyone’s fault who was tweeting that lame a*s caption. I knew this was going to happen,” another chimed in.

Highlights from Morgan Wallen’s Latest SNL Appearances

During the recent episode of Saturday Night Live, Wallen performed two tracks: “Just in Case” from his forthcoming album and “I’m the Problem” from his titular album slated for release on May 16, 2025. However, as the show neared its conclusion, he unexpectedly exited the stage.

Host Mikey Madison, celebrating her debut on SNL, thanked Wallen and everyone else, saying she had a “wonderful time.” Wallen’s farewell was marked with finger salutes as he seemingly whispered something to Madison before walking off the stage.

The abrupt nature of Wallen’s departure stirred speculation online. Some speculated about potential tensions with the SNL production. However, sources later indicated to Variety that Wallen’s sudden exit was similar to his behavior during rehearsal and was indeed unintentional. These insiders emphasized that Wallen experienced no discord with the show and enjoyed his time there, clarifying that his Instagram post wasn’t meant to convey any negativity.

In an interview, SNL cast member Kenan Thompson remarked that Wallen’s exit, while “pretty visible,” felt unexpected and provoked curiosity about his feelings regarding the show. He noted, “I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something. It’s definitely a spike in the norm.”

“I wonder what that’s about?” Thompson commented on Wallen’s actions. He also described the Instagram Story as “strange,” expressing curiosity about the intended message behind it.

Interestingly, Wallen was initially invited to participate in a pre-recorded music sketch for the episode but declined, resulting in Joe Jonas taking his place.
