WARNING: This article contains significant spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Episode 7. A key player in Daredevil: Born Again has revealed details about a shocking death that has altered the dynamics of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The narrative arc has taken an unexpected twist with Muse, a character introduced in this series, meeting a dramatic fate. Following a violent encounter between Muse and Dr. Heather Glenn, the outcome was not only surprising but also pivotal in the ongoing conflict with Daredevil.
In a recent discussion with ScreenRant, Margarita Levieva, who portrays Heather Glenn, shared insights into her character’s transformative journey following Muse’s demise. Reflecting on her experience filming tense scenes with Hunter Doohan, the actor playing Muse, Levieva expressed her admiration for her co-star’s talent:
Margarita Levieva: Their relationship began during the book signing, when I meet the character eventually, who is playing Muse. And Hunter Doohan is such an extraordinary actor, and from the moment he walked up to me, there was just so much coming off of him, and so much energy and vulnerability. That’s why it’s so jarring and just unfathomable when whatever unfolds unfolds. He was just such an extraordinary actor. That therapy session was a very, very long scene on the page, and it was one of those where [it] both felt like it was a huge mountain to climb, but once we got into the dance, it was so fluid and felt so real.
The complexity of Heather’s role as a therapist takes center stage, especially as she becomes responsible for Muse’s death. Levieva explored the emotional intricacies of her character, who, despite being a healer, found herself in a position where she took a life in self-defense. She articulated the internal conflict Heather grapples with after the event:
Margarita Levieva: It’s extremely traumatic. It’s life-changing, I think, for someone who’s in the service of helping others to then take someone else’s life is just too much to even understand at first and the moment that she does shoot him, we talked about it a lot. Is it a conscious decision? Is it full-on revenge, hunger, kill? Is it sort of like a blackout kind of kill because so much physical violence is inflicted upon her up until then? There are a few moments where she actually hits her head. So we were wondering if there was a version of it where she’s almost unaware of what she’s doing, and it’s kind of like automatic. So I don’t know, I don’t want to really reveal what I decided for myself it was. It’ll be interesting to see how people interpret it, but the effects are evident right away, even in the hospital scene, when she wakes up from the concussion and realizes what she had done, it’s so unbearable for her to process because taking someone’s life is not something that she ever thought, obviously, that she would ever do in her lifetime. [It] really rocks her.
When the conversation shifted to the challenges Heather would face in processing her trauma as a therapist, Levieva highlighted the profound implications of such an experience:
Margarita Levieva: That’s complicated, and that’s what’s so beautiful about the writing and the creators of the show, because obviously, we’re dealing with such big themes and this idea of vigilante and violence and what is done in the service of serving the greater good. How far can we actually take that sort of violence into our own hands? Where does it all end?
The Significance of Margarita Levieva’s Comments on Daredevil: Born Again
Although mortality is a recurring theme in Daredevil: Born Again, instances where virtuous characters must confront the decision to kill an opponent are less common. Heather Glenn’s situation parallels Karen Page’s difficult choice in the first season, highlighting the moral complexities both characters face under pressure. Heather, misled by Bastian, was thrust into a moment of unexpected violence that necessitated a drastic decision.
From Levieva’s insights, it’s clear that Heather’s encounter with violence is set to have lasting effects throughout the remainder of Daredevil: Born Again‘s first season, and potentially into Season 2, which has already been confirmed. The psychological burden carried by a therapist who has taken a life is profound, and Levieva’s reflections suggest that the aftermath of Episode 7 will resonate deeply within Heather’s character. As Matt Murdock processes this new dimension of Heather, fans eagerly anticipate how his views on vigilantism will influence their relationship.
Insights on Margarita Levieva’s Reflections in Daredevil: Born Again
Levieva’s commentary on Heather’s harrowing experience in Episode 7 sets the stage for an intriguing character arc in the upcoming episodes. As the narrative unfolds, viewers will undoubtedly find it captivating to witness how Heather copes with the ramifications of her actions. With Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again on the horizon, the psychological impacts of her choices will likely shape her journey in profound ways, ultimately raising questions about the ethics of vigilantism and the psychological costs of violence.
