“Navigating Challenges” – Below Deck Down Under Chef Tzarina Discusses Her Professional Connection with Stew Lara

Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under: A New Chapter Begins

The highly anticipated third season of Below Deck Down Under premiered on February 3, 2025, captivating viewers with its familiar faces and exciting new additions. Returning to the helm were Captain Jason Chambers, Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph, and deckhand Harry Van Vliet. A notable change occurred in the Chief Stew position, where Lara Rigby stepped in to succeed Aesha Scott, who held the role in the previous season.

Insights from Tzarina Mace-Ralph

In a recent interview with Collider on March 20, Tzarina expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Lara, highlighting their prior friendship outside of the show. Tzarina proudly stated that she played a role in convincing Lara to join the cast, setting high expectations for their professional dynamic.

Challenges on the High Seas

While Tzarina conveyed excitement about their partnership, she candidly acknowledged that the work environment on a yacht can be challenging. Their collaboration included some “bumps and hiccups,”a reality that comes with the territory in the heat of a high-stakes maritime setting.

“I was so excited. I very much convinced her that she absolutely has to do it. Unfortunately, we do have bumps and hiccups, but I think it’s bound to happen when you’re working on a boat that size and that many stairs, and in that heat,”she said.

A Shift in Leadership Styles

Tzarina Mace-Ralph made her debut in season 2, during which Aesha Scott took charge as Chief Stew. In discussing the transition, Tzarina emphasized the importance of Aesha’s professionalism and unwavering poise under pressure, noting that her positive demeanor greatly eased the challenges of working aboard a yacht.

“I don’t understand how, with the amount of stress that she has on these boats, she’s always smiling. And she never shouts, and she never loses her cool. And I actually really admire that woman,”she added.

Contrasting Personalities: Aesha vs. Lara

Tzarina acknowledged the contrasting styles of both Chief Stews. While Aesha’s approach was well-established, drawing on her experience from previous seasons, Lara faced the demanding role as a relative newcomer. Tzarina expressed her admiration for Aesha’s ability to manage stress and maintain a cheerful outlook.

In contrast, Lara, who was stepping into a high-pressure situation for the first time, encountered several challenges. Tzarina pointed out her preference for a very upbeat environment and a colleague who could share in a fun, quirky dynamic.
