In a significant shift, players will no longer receive chests as rewards from battles in Clash Royale, leading to the removal of the Magic Key feature. Upcoming changes also include the discontinuation of the Season Shop and the elimination of Banner Tokens.
This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the Clash Royale update for April 2025, detailing all key changes and features.
Clash Royale April 2025 Update Patch Notes

Below are the complete patch notes for the upcoming update:
New Battle Rewards System
The updated Battle Rewards now feature Lucky Drops, Bonus Rewards, and Crowns. Players can earn either Random Cards or Gold as Bonus Rewards, with those cards being selected from the pool of cards they have already unlocked. The rarity of these cards will depend on the player’s current Arena level.
Every day, players can earn rewards through their first three victories, which will include Lucky Drops, Bonus Rewards, and Crowns. Continuing the winning streak for the following seven matches will yield additional Crowns and Bonus Rewards. Starting now, this reward system is set to undergo experimentation for four weeks, so players may notice fluctuations in their rewards.
Bonus Crowns
During your first three battles each day, you’ll accumulate five extra Crowns per battle, capping at a maximum of 15 bonus Crowns daily.
Changes to Chest Queue and Chest Keys
Chests in your inventory will now be opened automatically, providing instant rewards. Furthermore, any existing Chest Keys will be converted to Gold at a rate of:
1 Chest Key = 5,000 Gold (Maximum = 150,000 Gold for 30 Keys)
Updates on Season Rewards
The April 2025 update introduces several changes to the season rewards:
- The Season Shop has been closed in its current format, and Season Tokens have been discontinued, with Season Rewards now integrated across the game. This change is aimed at making desirable rewards accessible to all players while promoting engagement across various game modes without the necessity of seasonal events.
- Despite its extensive rewards, the Season Shop had low player engagement, with many either unaware of its existence or choosing not to participate in seasonal events.
- From the April season onwards, the Wild Shard will be included in the free Pass Royale, while Evolution Shards and the Book of Cards will now be rewarded for completing Milestone and Community Events.
Removal of the Banner Box
The update will also see the removal of the Banner Box and Banner Tokens. Players can still earn Frames and Decorations through challenges, events, Lucky Drops, Pass Royale, and shop purchases. Any conversions from Banner Tokens will occur simultaneously with their removal from the Season Shop:
100 Banner Tokens = 2,000 Gold, with a maximum conversion limit of 2,000 Banner Tokens (40,000 Gold).
New Season: A Tale of Thieves

Details about the new season include:
Introduction of Boss Bandit
The Boss Bandit emerges as the first 6-Elixir Champion, designed for strategic players seeking significant impacts in matches. Like the traditional Bandit, she can dash towards opponents, but with a powerful enhancement. Her active ability, Getaway Grenade, allows her to teleport backward, setting up a surprise attack. Additionally, her ability cooldown resets when she reaches 50% HP, offering savvy players the opportunity to change the game’s flow.
Executioner’s Evolution
The Executioner has received an upgrade, enhancing his axe to deal additional damage to nearby enemies while knocking them back, making him a formidable presence on the battlefield. This upgraded character will join the Arena starting April 7, 2025.
Pathfinding Improvements
Significant updates have been made to pathfinding:
- Troops and Buildings: Troops can now detect Buildings ahead of time and adjust their movements accordingly, preventing unnecessary collisions.
- Troops and Lanes: Troop movement has become more intuitive, as they now move diagonally to reach their destination, rather than sticking strictly to lanes.
While we update troop movements, we aim to retain existing interactions to ensure that gameplay remains consistent and predictable, without disrupting the current meta or player strategies.
Fine-Tuning Lucky Drops
Further changes to Lucky Drops include:
- Each Lucky Drop presents a higher chance of unlocking new Cards.
- 4-star Lucky Drops can now upgrade to 5-star status, with 2-star and 3-star Lucky Drops having increased probabilities for reaching 4-star, albeit with a reduced chance to achieve 5-star status.
Additionally, players can expect 3-star Lucky Drops to now include Tower Troops.
Enhanced Daily Streaks
The Streak Reward system has been integrated into the Battle Rewards. Notably, players’ profiles will showcase flames when they’re on a streak and display their current streak lengths for added motivation.
Instant Replay Functionality
A new ‘Play Again’ button allows players to dive straight back into matchmaking for the same game mode after completing a battle. Note that this feature is not available for Clan Wars or tournaments where the loss limit has been reached.
Additional Changes and Bug Fixes
The patch includes numerous adjustments and bug fixes, such as:
- The Hoggy Bank is now available in the Shop.
- Enhancements to latency and cosmetic selections, allowing players to easily view and modify their active Tower Skin and other cosmetics.
- Lucky Drops are now opening quicker than before.
- Changes to attack speeds for Executioner and Ram Rider when affected by Rage.
- Corrections to multiple troop deployment mechanisms and other bug fixes to ensure a seamless gameplay experience.
