CinemaCon Opening Highlights: Paul Rudd and Jack Black Perform Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Song

New Comedy Reboot of Anaconda Unveiled at CinemaCon

The highly anticipated comedy reboot of Anaconda made its debut at this year’s CinemaCon, showcasing a fresh take on the iconic 1997 horror film.

During the event held in Las Vegas, beloved actors Paul Rudd and Jack Black appeared in a lively video segment to introduce Tom Rothman, Sony’s film chief. This reimagining is directed by Tom Gormican and pays homage to the snake-themed classic.

Excitement Surrounds the Film’s Development

Injecting humor into their presentation, Rudd jested, “We should probably talk about our movie because let’s face it, this is one big commercial.” The dynamic duo shared that they are currently filming in Australia, with Black expressing his longing to be on set, stating, “I wish we were there right now.”

The pair continued the lighthearted banter, teasing, “Get ready to meet the real star of the film: the anaconda itself,” followed by an amusing anecdote about a large snake purportedly escaping.

Tom Rothman Takes the Stage

Following Rudd and Black’s spirited introduction, Rothman made his entrance, accompanied by the upbeat track “Anaconda” by Sir Mix-a-Lot, humorously noting that they couldn’t secure the rights for the song.

Scheduled for release on December 25, Anaconda is co-written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form producing through Fully Formed.

Teasers and Anticipation

Back in December, Rudd and Black had teased the project through a video in which Black quipped, “There’s gonna be a big [expletive] snake, and it’s gonna rip.” This project had been in the works since August, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

A Look Back at the Original Film

The original Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa, featured a star-studded cast including Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. It revolves around a National Geographic crew on a perilous quest to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake. Remarkably, the film garnered over $136 million worldwide—equivalent to approximately $269 million today.

Current Projects of Paul Rudd and Jack Black

Rudd recently led the cast in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and is presently featured alongside Jenna Ortega in A24’s Death of a Unicorn. Meanwhile, Jack Black lends his voice to characters in both Kung Fu Panda 4 and Borderlands, with his highly anticipated film A Minecraft Movie opening in theaters this weekend.
