Overview
- A sneak peek of the Switch 2 console and controllers was unveiled just before Nintendo’s highly anticipated Direct livestream.
Recently, Nintendo shared an intriguing image showcasing the Switch 2 console and its new controllers, just days ahead of a significant Nintendo Direct livestream event. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the Nintendo Switch 2 since its initial reveal earlier this year in January, and the wait is almost over.
Even before the official announcement, there was a whirlwind of speculation among gamers and industry analysts regarding Nintendo’s next major console release. Many of the discussions centered around the anticipated name and design of the Switch 2, both of which have now been confirmed to bear a striking resemblance to those of the current Nintendo Switch model. The new system will continue to feature the beloved console/handheld hybrid functionality, but it will include several enhancements, such as magnetic Joy-Con connectors and an intriguing new button that may allow connectivity with existing Nintendo Switch units, enabling it to serve as a secondary controller.
As anticipation builds for the forthcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2, Nintendo has treated fans to an additional preview of the Switch 2. This teaser comes from a trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2, designed to generate excitement for the upcoming livestream. The video showcases the console alongside its revamped Joy-Con controllers, illustrating the multiple configurations available for the device. Initially slated for release outside Japan, the trailer was unexpectedly shared early on the Nintendo Today App, as highlighted by Bluesky user Stealth40k.

Astute Nintendo enthusiasts might have noticed that one of the Joy-Con controllers featured in the fresh trailer is positioned sideways, providing a closer look at its new mouse-like functionality. The trailer further illustrates the Switch 2’s standard console configuration as well as its portable tablet and handheld modes, which have been inherited from its predecessor.

Many questions remain regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, including its release date, pricing details, and the lineup of games expected to launch within its inaugural year. Current speculation suggests that the console could be priced between $399 and $499. Additionally, pre-orders might become available as soon as the Nintendo Direct livestream airs on April 2.
