James Arnold Taylor, the actor behind Obi-Wan Kenobi, continues to advocate for the return of Satine Kryze, Obi-Wan’s intriguing love interest from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Her presence created a stunning narrative twist within the series, and although some fans were initially taken aback, the depth of the connection between Satine and Obi-Wan has become a standout element in the Star Wars canon. Tragically, since the finale of The Clone Wars, Satine’s character has been virtually absent from the expanded Star Wars universe.
ScreenRant: Are there any other Obi-Wan stories that you’ve never gotten a chance to tell that you’ve always still wanted to?
James Arnold Taylor: I’m pretty vocal about it, and I’m waiting for Lucasfilm to go, “James, stop.”But I would really love for them to tell a story in animated form of Duchess Satine and Obi-Wan when they were younger and how they met, because we’ve talked about it throughout Clone Wars.
Anna Graves and I are very talented voice actors, so we could pull that off! [Laughs] I could be a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi, and she could be a younger Satine. I would love to see that story – selfishly, yes, but also because I think the fans would love it too. There’s a beautiful, wonderful group of fans that I see at every ComicCon. They dress up as ObaTine – that’s what they call Satine and Obi-Wan together, and I love that story.
I also love the story of Ahsoka and Plo Koon. He discovered Ahsoka, and we only got a hint of it in one Tales of the Jedi, so I would love to see more of that story and how he helped raise her up at the Jedi Temple.
We wholeheartedly concur with Taylor; Satine Kryze is a remarkable character in the Star Wars universe, and her compelling relationship with Obi-Wan deserves further exploration. Yet, it is puzzling how her character has been scarcely mentioned across newer Star Wars films and series outside of The Clone Wars.
The Untold Story of Satine Kryze
The Significance of Satine’s Absence

It’s quite surprising that since The Clone Wars, Satine has not featured more prominently in the Star Wars narrative. While her demise in the show was significant, there were numerous opportunities to reference her in later series, which could have served to validate her fanbase that cherished her character. Not only was she Obi-Wan’s romantic interest, but she also held the title of Duchess of Mandalore and was Bo-Katan Kryze’s sister, which makes her role pivotal in the greater Star Wars timeline.
It feels particularly strange that both the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and The Mandalorian have not referenced Satine, especially given her sister Bo-Katan’s lack of acknowledgment regarding her loss. As we look ahead to upcoming projects surrounding Bo-Katan and characters like Grogu, it’s hoped that the significance of Satine will finally receive the recognition it deserves. As Taylor rightly points out, we are eager for an in-depth examination of Satine and Obi-Wan’s poignant romance on screen.
Exploring Satine and Obi-Wan’s Romance
An Unexpected Yet Engaging Relationship

For some fans, the revelation of Obi-Wan’s affection for Satine may have felt unexpected, and perhaps even unsatisfactory. Critics voiced that it was implausible for Obi-Wan to exhibit romantic feelings, especially given his public disapproval of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala’s relationship. However, it is this very tension that adds depth to their story.
Obi-Wan’s relationship with Satine showcased his unwavering commitment to the Jedi Order. He expressed a willingness to forsake everything for her, which starkly contrasted Anakin’s choices. Therefore, this romance not only enriched Obi-Wan’s character but also illuminated the intricate balance between obeying the Jedi Code and personal affection. Just as James Arnold Taylor hopes for a resurgence of this storyline, many fans share that sentiment, especially with Satine’s absence from the Star Wars narrative since her last appearance in The Clone Wars.
