Kinepolis Expands Partnership with Imax in Europe and North America
Kinepolis, the Belgium-based cinema exhibitor, has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Imax through a new agreement that encompasses nine theaters across Europe and North America.
Details of the Expansion
This latest arrangement will facilitate the installation of Imax screens equipped with state-of-the-art laser systems in France, Belgium, Spain, and the Netherlands, while also establishing new locations in the United States and Canada. As a result, Kinepolis is set to nearly double its Imax presence in Europe, increasing from five to 13 locations.
North American Ventures
In addition to its European operations, Kinepolis has made strides in North America following its acquisition of Landmark Cinemas, a Canadian movie theater chain with multiple locations, as well as MJR Theatres, primarily situated in metro Detroit.
Strategic Goals and Upcoming Releases
The terms of this new deal indicate that eight of the additional Imax theaters are expected to be operational by the end of 2025, strategically aligned with the release schedules of highly anticipated Hollywood films such as Sinners, Thunderbolts, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, How to Train Your Dragon, Superman, and The Fantastic Four.
Commitment to Premium Cinema Experiences
In 2023, Kinepolis took a step forward by adding eight Imax screens across their venues in Belgium, France, Spain, Luxembourg, the U.S., and Canada. Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group, emphasized this growth in a recent statement: “We are dedicated to providing premium cinema experiences that cater to the growing demand for richer and more immersive moviegoing.”
Duquenne further expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “Our commitment is to deliver the best possible film experience for each movie, and Imax has consistently proven its ability to elevate the viewing experience of Hollywood’s biggest films. We are thrilled to expand our Imax footprint and bring this exceptional experience to even more audiences.”
