The seventh episode of the eleventh season of 90 Day Fiancé debuted on March 30, 2025, at 8 PM ET on TLC. This popular reality television series highlights the journeys of international couples as they navigate the complexities of visa applications, cultural differences, and the pressing decision of whether to marry within 90 days.
Joan’s Struggles with Dowry Expectations
In this episode, Joan confided in her family about her ongoing financial concerns related to Greg and the dowry custom rooted in her culture. During a heartfelt phone call, she expressed that Greg’s financial instability was an obstacle, particularly regarding the dowry requirement.
“Greg has to pay dowry for me in my culture. So if Greg doesn’t want to pay the dowry, he’s going to be disrespecting my family and also my father’s last wishes. And if Greg doesn’t pay the dowry, we can’t get married.”
A Challenging Conversation with Family
In her discussion with family member Angel, Joan revealed that her stay in the U.S. had extended far beyond her original plan. Initially anticipating a three to six-month duration, she now faced a two-year timeline due to Greg’s financial difficulties.
“Greg doesn’t have the money to buy a house right now.”
Angel urged Joan to motivate Greg to pursue employment and save funds. Joan noted her efforts but admitted Greg’s lack of seriousness towards work. In response, Angel pointed out, “Well, that’s not right.” Joan later revealed that sharing her circumstances with her family brought her stress and shame.
“Talking to my family about the situation I’m really in here is really stressing me and it’s really ashaming because everyone thinks America is the land of opportunities, but this is not it,” she stated, highlighting the disparity between expectations and reality.
Addressing Cultural Expectations
When Angel inquired about Joan’s discussions with Greg regarding the dowry, she admitted that the topic had not yet come up due to their ongoing issues. Nevertheless, she recognized the dowry’s significance in her culture and Angel reiterated the necessity of fulfilling this tradition. “No, it’s not possible ‘cause in our culture. It must be done,” she emphasized.
“He has to man up,” Joan underscored, pressing the cultural weight of the dowry on their relationship.
Greg’s Living Situation and Its Challenges
Meanwhile, the episode also shed light on Greg’s living arrangements with his mother and Joan. In a candid moment, Greg discussed the challenges associated with cohabiting with his mother.
“Living with my mom and Joan has its ups and downs sometimes. Sometimes you want a little privacy,” he admitted.
Later, Greg’s mother tasked him with watering the garden, and Joan offered to assist. In a confessional, Greg described his frustration over the lack of privacy stemming from his mother’s constant presence.
“If I go in the garage, she comes in the garage. If I go in the back room, she’s vacuuming the back room. If I’m in the kitchen, she’s cleaning dishes in the kitchen. It’s like, what the f***, man?”
Impact on Their Relationship
Interestingly, Greg also shared that introducing his mother to rideshare delivery options during the pandemic provided him with much-needed space. In her own confessional, his mother expressed contentment with their living situation, observing changes in Greg’s demeanor.
“He seems a lot happier. In the morning, he’ll be singing, you know, in the morning, dancing. And it’s good. It’s good to see my son happy,” she commented.
Greg confessed that his living circumstances were influencing his intimate relationship with Joan, leading him to seek a balance that didn’t feel contrived.
