D&D Eberron: Forge of the Artificer – Release Date, Class Changes, New Races, and Content Information

Dungeons & Dragons fans are buzzing with excitement as the beloved campaign setting of Eberron gears up for new material after nearly two decades of relative silence. Since its debut in 2004—thanks to creator Keith Baker’s triumph in a Wizards of the Coast contest—Eberron has captivated players, yet aside from the 2019 sourcebook Eberron: Rising from the Last War and sporadic digital releases, the world has waited patiently for fresh content. However, this is set to change dramatically in 2025 with the forthcoming sourcebook, Eberron: Forge Of The Artificer.

When Eberron: Forge Of The Artificer Releases In 2025

Scheduled Release Date and Early Access

Eberron Art D&D 2025

Mark your calendars for August 19, 2025, when the Eberron: Forge of The Artificer sourcebook will be unveiled. This release will be the third of six major Dungeons & Dragons publications launching in 2025, following the new Monster Manual, which hit shelves on February 18. In a January 2025 press briefing, Jeremy Crawford, lead designer, likened Forge of the Artificer to an Eberron-themed version of Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.

Distinct from typical adventure books like Curse of Strahd, this sourcebook will function as a companion piece to Rising from the Last War. Players can integrate selected new content alongside existing Eberron lore. Notably, it will include three sample adventures: “Sharn Inquisitives,””Dragonmark Intrigue,” and “Morgrave Expeditions.” These adventures can be expanded and adapted into full campaigns, utilizing guidance from the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Artificer Updates, New Species, Backgrounds, & Feats

Introduction of a New Subclass and Dragonmark Changes

None

With its introduction of the Warforged race and Artificer class in D&D 5e, Rising from the Last War set a high bar, and the upcoming Forge of the Artificer sourcebook aims to elevate this further. This new edition will reintroduce the Artificer class—now revised with updated subclasses—and will unveil the innovative Cartographer subclass, focusing on exploration and map-making rather than solely on mechanical tinkering. These updates are available for playtesting via D&D’s Unearthed Arcana, with the final decisions likely to deviate from the playtest versions.

Previously, Artificers specialized in weapons and healing, but the Cartographer’s fresh approach emphasizes movement and spatial awareness. Additionally, players will now have the flexibility to select their Dragonmark at later levels, via the newly integrated feats system introduced in 2024. Notably, the Khoravar will be recognized as a unique race rather than merely a variant of half-elves, enhancing the depth of character creation.

New Bastion Options & More Content Coming To Eberron In 2025

Integration of Eberron-Specific Content in D&D 5e

None

The newly introduced Bastion system in the 2024 Player’s Handbook allows players to establish and maintain their own bases in campaigns, a complex and evolving facet that will be enhanced with the material in Forge of the Artificer. Although precise details on the new Bastion content remain under wraps, Wizards of the Coast hinted at expanded airship rules, catering to Eberron’s unique technological focus. Moreover, Keith Baker, the original designer of Eberron, will contribute to the sourcebook as a consultant, adding authenticity to the new features.

As Forge of the Artificer approaches its release date in late 2025, it is anticipated to be available on various platforms, including D&D Beyond, along with physical bookstore releases. Although WotC’s virtual tabletop project, Project Sigil, has been canceled, rest assured that the new Eberron content will be widely accessible on popular virtual tools such as Roll20 and Foundry.
