Overview
- The Xbox Game Pass mobile application has been officially discontinued.
- As detailed in a September 2023 announcement, Microsoft has integrated the Game Pass functionalities into the primary Xbox mobile application.
- Users can now utilize the main app for exploring the Game Pass catalog, managing subscriptions, and accessing perks.
The decision to shut down the Xbox Game Pass mobile app signals the conclusion of its independent operation. This comes nearly 18 months after Microsoft ceased new downloads for the app, leading to its ultimate retirement.
In a strategic move announced in September 2023, Microsoft aimed to unify its Xbox mobile applications, consolidating features under a single umbrella. This integration involved the winding down of the standalone Xbox Game Pass app, which provided functionalities like browsing the Game Pass library, managing subscriptions, and remote game installations. All of these capabilities have been incorporated into the main Xbox mobile app, ensuring that Game Pass users continue to have easy access to their beloved features in one centralized platform.

While Microsoft intends to streamline the user experience with this transition, it has resulted in mixed reactions among the Xbox community. Some gamers have reported feeling inconvenienced by having to navigate the broader Xbox app, as it encompasses features beyond Game Pass, which may appear overwhelming. Nevertheless, many users have successfully adapted to the new layout, benefiting from the continued support for remote installations that allow for the pre-loading of upcoming Game Pass titles directly to consoles, just as in the previous application.

Although the discontinuation of the dedicated Xbox Game Pass app may disappoint some users, the service continues to thrive. In March alone, nine new titles were added to Xbox Game Pass, including the newly launched Atomfall and EA’s popular College Football 25. Looking forward, subscribers can anticipate a lineup of exciting new additions such as Doom: The Dark Ages, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
