Introducing Avatar Legends: Realms Collide
Avatar Legends: Realms Collide, an exciting new mobile game, plunges players into the richly renowned universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This latest offering showcases a diverse cast of characters drawn from the beloved classic series, its sequel, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, as well as the expansive Avatar comic and novel canon. Notably, several original characters have been introduced, giving players fresh challenges in their journey.
The gameplay diverges from a single timeline of the Avatar universe, allowing players to assemble teams comprised of heroes from any era. Iconic figures like Aang, Korra, and fan favorites such as Kyoshi are featured throughout. Blending elements of city-building and strategic auto-battling—reminiscent of Riot’s Teamfight Tactics—Realms Collide’s main objective is to overcome the formidable spirit known as Father Glowworm, first introduced in the Kyoshi novels.
For dedicated fans, it’s thrilling to explore new aspects of the Avatar lore through this game. To gain deeper insights into the game’s design process, we had a discussion with JunHyoung Lee, the Project Director for Avatar Legends: Realms Collide.
The Inspiration Behind Avatar Legends: Realms Collide
The Inception of the Game and Its Setting

ScreenRant: What came first in Avatar Legends: Realms Collide, the story or the gameplay?
JunHyoung Lee: At AN Games, our focus as a strategy game development team is to breathe life into this captivating intellectual property. We concentrated on creating an immersive world that resonates with the fundamental principles of strategic gameplay.
The foundation for ARC (Avatar Legends: Realms Collide) was initially inspired by a storyline that revolves around elemental spirits. Numerous heroes rally to avert an impending threat to the material realm. Collaborating with Tilting Point and Nickelodeon allowed us to expand this narrative, introducing unique characters like Chanyu and the Shattered Skulls, while weaving in the overarching presence of Father Glowworm for a complex and engaging story.
ScreenRant: How did you decide to include characters from different time periods?
JunHyoung Lee: The Avatar franchise offers a variety of characters, each with distinct tales and appeal. We aim to cater to gamers’ preferences by providing interactions with multiple heroes. By introducing characters from various eras, we ensure that players can connect with their favorites across different timelines.
ScreenRant: Which characters were most exciting to adapt for the game?
JunHyoung Lee: We are particularly thrilled to include characters like Aang, Korra, Kyoshi, and the soon-to-be-released Roku. These avatars represent the essence of each bending style and are integral to the storyline, making their adaptation essential to enhancing the game’s experience.
How Avatar Legends: Realms Collide Integrates Narrative Elements
Featuring Iconic and New Characters

ScreenRant: Why did Father Glowworm become the primary antagonist?
JunHyoung Lee: Among the array of spirits in Avatar, Father Glowworm is notable for his ancient power and the ability to traverse into the material realm, posing a significant threat to balance. His compelling backstory allows for the emergence of compelling characters like Chanyu and the Shattered Skulls, enriching our narrative.
ScreenRant: How are original characters like Chanyu and the Shattered Skulls designed?
JunHyoung Lee: Our narrative begins in the Si Wong Desert, serving as a backdrop for a tale steeped in resilience and personal trials. We aimed to serve more than just a classic villain; our story shines a light on each character’s journey, shaped by choices and the fiercely challenging environment. This depth enables players to engage with multidimensional characters whose arcs will unfold further through future updates in ARC.

Transforming Avatar’s Characters for Gameplay

ScreenRant: When balancing the powers of Avatar characters, how did you approach the task? Did you consider gameplay stats alongside source material?
JunHyoung Lee: Our design emphasizes original show skills and balances gameplay aspects in terms of stats and character roles. Some characters are specifically tailored for designated roles within the game.
JunHyoung Lee: Choose your favorite Bender and strive to upgrade them to the maximum of 5 stars swiftly. Designating them as your troop leader allows you to deploy two additional heroes for battle.
