Understanding the Uses of Atomic Batteries in Atomfall

Atomfall embraces an open-ended style, particularly when it comes to its inventory system. You’ll likely come across Atomic Batteries during your adventures, but understanding their role can be a bit elusive. Similar to the STALKER series, space in your inventory is limited, making it tricky to lug around items whose purpose you haven’t yet determined. This ambiguity contributes to the game’s allure; however, a cluttered inventory can result in unexpected setbacks and even early deaths.

While navigating the Windscale quarantine zone, you’ll soon discover that in Atomfall, knowledge is key. The game offers minimal guidance regarding the Atomic Battery’s use. Its description reads: “A valuable power source created by B.A.R.D. to power their equipment,”hinting at its significance. Developed by the British Atomic Research Division, Atomic Batteries are not just valuable; they play a critical role in the game’s narrative, often requiring substantial trades to acquire.

Access New Areas of the Interchange with Atomic Batteries

Energize the Data Stores

The primary function of Atomic Batteries lies within the Interchange. They serve as crucial components that restore power to locked-down wards in research facilities. As part of Atomfall‘s intricate puzzle design, the Interchange is where significant exploration unfolds. Restoring power to its four Data Stores is essential; by doing so, players can activate lock release systems that grant access to previously unreachable rooms.

In your early gameplay, you’re likely to find an Atomic Battery through trader Molly, located to the west of Wyndham Village’s entrance. Early in your quest, letting go of such valuable loot can be daunting; however, exploring Wyndham Village—especially focusing on St. Katherine’s Church—can yield great rewards. Once you secure an Atomic Battery, any Interchange entrance will eventually lead you to a corresponding Data Store.

Throughout various B.A.R.D. facilities, including the Interchange and several bunkers, players will encounter Pneumatic Tubes designed to alleviate inventory issues. These tubes effectively function as personal storage units in Atomfall, allowing you to stow away valuables until you’re ready to use them, thus freeing up your inventory space. It’s wise to deposit any Atomic Batteries you acquire into these tubes to avoid potential clutter.

Each Pneumatic Tube can accommodate 100 items, which is significantly more than your basic inventory allows. Since there is no fast travel in Atomfall, and your inventory will be quite full aside from key items, consolidating quest essentials like Atomic Batteries into Pneumatic Tubes proves immensely beneficial. What’s more, all tube access points are interconnected, enabling you to retrieve Atomic Batteries from various locations when necessary.

Extract Atomic Batteries from B.A.R.D. Robots

Battle Advanced Tech: Atomfall’s Fearsome Enemies

As you progress further into Atomfall, Atomic Batteries become more prevalent, despite their initial scarcity. Set in 1962, the game cleverly incorporates advanced technology, notably the batteries that energize B.A.R.D.’s formidable robots, some of which patrol Wyndham Village. These machines represent some of the toughest adversaries you’ll face, but defeating them rewards you with their batteries.

If navigating through Wyndham Village feels daunting, consider visiting the Grendel’s Head pub to gather information from the bartender. Interestingly, you can defeat B.A.R.D. robots with relative ease by simply targeting and removing their Atomic Battery. For flamethrower variants, dealing sufficient damage to the fuel tanks triggers overheating, enabling you to sneak behind and extract the battery before they recover. Other variants may require a more strategic approach, such as luring them into cover and waiting for them to overheat.

Although directly engaging these robots might consume your supplies, encounters with them aren’t always mandatory. As you delve deeper into the quarantine zone, the importance of Atomic Batteries will become increasingly clear, transforming from a mysterious item into a pivotal asset in your journey through Atomfall.
