The episode opens with Harry Bosch attending the military funeral of his former colleague Josh Brady. Maddie arrives at the service and meets Ken Gurbizs, another comrade who served alongside Bosch in Afghanistan. During the wake, Gurbizs shares a shocking tale about an incident that raises serious ethical questions regarding Bosch’s actions, leaving Maddie perplexed about her father’s integrity.
In a parallel narrative, Bosch receives a visit from Siobhan Murphy, a distraught mother from Ireland seeking assistance in uncovering the fate of her missing daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Meanwhile, Robertson and Lopez question Kurt Dockweiler’s attorney, who accuses Bosch of intimidating his client. Maddie confides her concerns about her father’s past war conduct to Honey Chandler, who advises her to consider the complexity of such situations before forming judgments.
Further investigations lead Robertson and Lopez to Sgt. John “Mank”Mankiewicz, who feigns ignorance regarding the Dockweiler incident. However, they manage to obtain video footage showing Bosch confronting Dockweiler, culminating in Jerry Edgar intervening. As Bosch delves deeper into the missing family case, Chandler contacts him for assistance regarding LAPD’s negligence in addressing the threat they received. Bosch discovers that initial assessments of the case did not raise alarms, but he uncovers potential embezzlement issues related to the family’s construction business.
Key Discoveries at the Missing Family’s Cabin

Bosch and Siobhan visit the family’s last known residence, while Mo ‘Maurice’ Bassi canvasses the area, uncovering video footage of the family departing the premises. In an important development, Mank briefs Bosch on the lack of security during the charity event and uncovers a scam implicating Lt. Thorne.
Detectives Robertson and Lopez soon interview Rita Tedesco, who is in direct contact with her husband, Preston Borders, and is coerced into revealing pivotal information about the hit on Kurt Dockweiler, including links to Borders and Dignan. They later question Maddie regarding her failure to report an alarming phone call from Borders. The episode culminates with Bosch and Siobhan exploring the cabin where the family used to stay, accompanied by Sheriff Beto Orestes. Here, Bosch makes a critical discovery: a comfort blanket belonging to one of the girls, strongly indicating that their disappearance was anything but voluntary.
