Overview of Hololive: A Leading VTuber Agency
Hololive stands at the forefront of the VTuber (Virtual YouTube) movement, having been established in 2017 by Cover Corp, a Japanese entertainment technology company. This prominent agency manages a diverse roster of talents across various languages, including its original Japanese branch, as well as English (HoloEN) and Indonesian (HoloID) divisions.
Expanding Horizons: Hololive English
Among its global initiatives, Hololive English has emerged as one of the agency’s largest willful branches, catering to the vast English-speaking audience. The agency has successfully crafted several generations of VTubers, with each generation showcasing a unique thematic identity along with distinct debut timelines.
Hololive Generations Naming Strategy
Rather than adopting a numerical system for their generations, Hololive opts for thematic names to prevent viewers from forming preconceived notions about the talents. Currently, four generations are active under the Hololive English umbrella:
- Myth (Debuted September 2020)
- Promise (Formerly known as Council, debuted August 2021)
- Advent (Debuted July 2023)

As a leading name in the VTuber industry, Hololive boasts nearly 100 contracted talents across diverse languages. However, like many agencies, it has experienced various departures, often referred to as “graduation”in the VTubing community.
List of Graduated VTubers
Here are some notable VTubers who have left or are planning to leave Hololive English:
- Tsukumo Sana (Council) – departed on July 31, 2022
- Ceres Fauna (Promise) – set to leave on January 4, 2025
- Nanashi Mumei (Council) – scheduled to graduate on April 28, 2025
Exploring Nanashi Mumei’s Departure
Among the noteworthy departures, Nanashi Mumei is scheduled to graduate on April 28, 2025. The announcement was made on March 28, 2025:
“We regret to announce that Nanashi Mumei of Hololive English will be graduating on April 28th, 2025 (JST).”
Mumei has publicly shared her reasons for leaving, citing internal misalignments within the agency and concerns regarding her health:
“I will be graduating from Hololive on April 28, the reasons being internal misalignments with the company and chronic health issues affecting my ability to use my voice over the last two years. I made great efforts to find resolutions in all areas, but ultimately decided this made the most sense for myself.”
It is critical to note that upon leaving, VTubers forfeit access to their YouTube channels as Hololive retains the intellectual property rights to these accounts, reinstating the creators as employees of the company.
