Atomfall: Evaluating Your Trust in Dr. Holder

Within the perilous quarantine zone of Atomfall, a variety of unsavory individuals lurk, attempting to navigate their escape routes. Among them is Dr. Holder, whose ultimate goal is not merely to flee but to obliterate the threat posed by Oberon once and for all.

This guide is designed to assist you in uncovering Dr. Holder’s location and executing his plan to eliminate the ominous purple meteorite that endangers your world.

To find Dr. Holder, head to the cellar of St. Katherine’s Church located in Wyndham Village. Be warned that the cellar door is locked, and the church’s occupants have no knowledge of the key’s whereabouts. Your quest begins by powering up The Interchange, which involves making your way to the Medical department.

Once inside, turn right at the Pneumatic Tube in Reception, then take another right into a small alcove to discover the Church Cellar Key, conveniently located next to an audio log.

With the key in hand, unlock the cellar door and step into Dr. Holder’s lab. Upon interacting with him, you may notice his striking blue eyes and skin, indicative of his infection by Oberon. He will explain his extensive research on Oberon and express his willingness to assist you in your escape. However, you must first retrieve a critical piece called Sample One, which can be found in the lower level of the Medical department.

Dr. Holder will provide you with his keycard, granting access to Medical’s Auditorium, where Sample One is located beside an infected corpse. Once you have obtained the sample, return to Dr. Holder, who will outline his plan to synthesize a toxin intended to eliminate Oberon. He will require some time to develop this solution, allowing you to focus on reactivating The Interchange.

Furthermore, be mindful that the entrance to the Medical Tunnels is located behind the area where you retrieved Sample One; you’ll need to explore this section later.

In order to utilize Dr. Holder’s toxin, you will need to confront Oberon directly. This requires you to activate an Atomic Battery to power The Interchange’s Central Processor Room, followed by reactivating Data Stores A, B, C, and D using additional Atomic Batteries. Successfully completing this task will allow you to restart the Central Processor, unlocking access to Oberon.

After providing Dr. Holder with Sample One, he will eventually position himself in the Central Processor Room. Here, he will hand you the Poisoned Sample One, which is essential for your mission to destroy Oberon. The path to Oberon is fraught with challenges, including navigating through an area filled with Thralls, Ferals, and dangerously infected plant life, all cloaked in a blue mist that could render you infected. Make sure to acquire the Strange Tonic recipe beforehand to protect yourself from infection.

Upon arriving at the Oberon Dig Site, your primary objective is to disperse the poison. Locate a building situated at the base of the menacing purple meteorite known as Oberon. Exercise caution as you enter, keeping an eye out for Thralls, and proceed to the Control Room.

Exit the Control Room to the left, leading you to the Fire Safety Fluid Input, where you will insert the Poisoned Sample One. To effectively spread the toxin over Oberon, you will need to operate two Fire Safety System Valves, which are yellow structures on either side of the meteorite’s base. Be prepared for a confrontation with three B.A.R.D. Robots armed with flamethrowers, as you will need to either defeat or stealthily bypass them to access the valves. Once you’ve activated both valves, return to the Control Room and engage the lever that will dispatch the poison onto Oberon.

As the facility starts to implode, make a hasty retreat to The Interchange. Unfortunately, you’ll encounter several hostile druids, including a particularly furious Mother Jago. Upon your return, Dr. Holder will have moved to the Medical Tunnels. Descend into Medical’s depths and prepare for potential confrontations with any lurking Thralls.

Once in the tunnels, locate the cracked wall obscured by infected plant life. Squeeze through and you’ll find Dr. Holder waiting near an exit. He will commend you for your success in eliminating Oberon and will express concern about your safety. Both of you must seek refuge to avoid being captured by government forces aiming to study those infected.
The escape route will lead to a long ladder descending into an oubliette.

Ultimately, the outcome of your escape from the quarantine zone remains ambiguous. While Oberon is vanquished, as indicated by a voice on the phone during the ending, Dr. Holder’s plan primarily involved the destruction of Oberon. Thus, while he may seem trustworthy, pursuing his conclusion could mean finding yourself trapped with an eccentric, blue-skinned collaborator for an uncertain duration.
