BAFTA TV Awards 2023: ‘Baby Reindeer’ Tops Nominations with Eight, ‘Rivals’ and ‘Slow Horses’ Follow with Six Each

Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer”Tops BAFTA Nominations for 2025

The acclaimed Netflix series, Baby Reindeer, has gained significant attention at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards and BAFTA Television Craft Awards, leading the nominations with an impressive eight nods. This announcement was made on Thursday, just over a month after the BAFTA Film Awards took place. Following closely, each of the Disney+ series Rivals, AppleTV+ hit Slow Horses, and ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office secured six nominations.

Baby Reindeer‘s nominations span multiple categories, including:

  • Supporting Actress

  • Sound: Fiction
  • Writer: Drama

Other notable contenders include The Traitors, Industry, Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, and Shrinking.

In a remarkable twist, 21 out of 44 nominees in the performance categories received their first-ever BAFTA TV Awards nominations. Among these are:

The Leading Actor category is highlighted by veterans such as Gary Oldman, David Tennant, Lennie James, Martin Freeman, and Toby Jones, alongside Richard Gadd from Baby Reindeer. The Leading Actress nominations feature Anna Maxwell Martin, Billie Piper, Lola Petticrew, Marisa Abela, Monica Dolan, and Sharon D. Clarke.

Other prominent nominees include Damian Lewis for Supporting Actor and Brett Goldstein for Writer: Comedy.

Competing for the Best International Series award are notable shows such as Shōgun, True Detective: Night Country, Say Nothing, and Colin From Accounts.

The BBC tops the nomination list with an impressive 75 nods, while other networks performing well include:

  • Sky – 23 nominations
  • ITV – 21 nominations
  • Disney+ – 15 nominations
  • Apple TV+ – 13 nominations

BAFTA chair Sara Putt remarked, “This year’s television nominations celebrate the exceptional creativity and craft of British and international television, highlighting those who bring these stories to life on and off-screen.” Additionally, BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip emphasized that “2024 was a standout year for television”and praised its role in fostering national dialogues and inspiring societal change, declaring that “U.K. television is at the top of its game.”

The BAFTA Television Craft Awards are set to take place on Sunday, April 227, at The Brewery in London, while the BAFTA Television Awards will be celebrated on Sunday, May 11, at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The awards will also be broadcasted on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer, with Alan Cumming as the host.
