Asmongold Responds to Ubisoft’s Viral Reaction to Elon Musk: “More People Liked the Tweet Than Purchased the Game”

In a recent surge of social media engagement, Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold”reacted to a viral post by Ubisoft, which gained traction on March 26, 2025. The controversy ignited after Elon Musk criticized the latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, referring to it as “terrible.” Ubisoft cleverly retaliated by referencing Musk’s involvement in a scandal linked to Path of Exile 2:

“Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?”

Ubisoft’s quick-witted response has already amassed over 680,000 likes, establishing it as one of the most liked posts on X in 2025. Asmongold weighed in on this exchange, suggesting that the creative mind behind Ubisoft’s social media should contribute to game writing:

“Whoever is running social media at Ubisoft needs to write the next game.”

Although Asmongold found the social media jab entertaining, he expressed skepticism regarding the game’s commercial success:

“Take this person who is doing social media; you just need to put them on the writing team. You have more people who liked this tweet than bought the game. But honestly, that’s not so good.”

Questioning Player Numbers: “How many bought the game?”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, despite some critical reception, has reportedly attracted over two million players since its launch. While some players have praised the game, notable criticism has arisen regarding its diverse character representation, including the integration of gender-neutral characters.

Asmongold himself has played the game, finding it enjoyable, yet raised concerns about its mechanics. In his reflection on the recent player statistics, he remarked:

“They got 2 million players? I said buy the game, not play it. How many of those people bought the game? We have 37K people playing the game. Obviously, the numbers are trailing off just like they always do.”

Adding to the discourse surrounding the game, Asmongold cast doubt on the assertion of its success:

“Is this a big success? If Assassin’s Creed really did extremely well, I think it would have caused the stock to go up more than this. A true return to form for a flagship franchise only resulted in a 30 cent increase in the price of the stock?”

In a related note, fellow streamer Hasan “HasanAbi”has also entered the conversation after announcing a sponsorship with Ubisoft to promote Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This move, however, has sparked backlash from some sections of the gaming community.
