Recap of Episode 4 of The Amazing Race Season 37: “There’s No Addresses in the Jungle”
The latest episode of The Amazing Race, which aired on March 26, took viewers on an exciting journey to Bali, Indonesia. This thrilling installment featured intense competition among the contestants, resulting in Jonathan and Ana claiming victory and earning enticing trips to Croatia and Montenegro. Unfortunately, Bernie and Carrigain were eliminated after finishing at the bottom of the pack.
Strategic Moves and Controversial Decisions
Jonathan and Ana, seeking to maintain their lead, opted to utilize their Express Pass to jump ahead to the second challenge, driven by their fear of being overtaken by Scott and Lori. Despite this strategic move, Scott and Lori managed to catch up, ultimately placing third, just behind Jonathan and Ana. This sparked a debate among fans regarding the timing of the Express Pass usage, with many expressing that it might have been better saved for a more daunting challenge.
“Being number one this leg was not a flex, lowkey because they wasted an Express Pass for no reason,”a fan said.
“What an absolute waste of an Express Pass. Give yourself the lowest number, assign the highest to the people right behind you, then go, ‘Oh. This is work. Let’s use it.’ There’s going to be equalizers at some point. You set it up to ensure you got out first,”said another.
“THAT IS NOT WHEN YOU USE THE EXPRESS PASS. Lowkey hoping it bites them in the butt,”added a third.
“Jonathan & Ana assigned all the weight to the other teams via the driver’s seat then bounced using the Express Pass. That is definitely going to cause some hard feelings,”another wrote.
Overall, an overwhelming number of viewers argued that it was unwise for Jonathan and Ana to utilize their Express Pass, especially when they were already ahead.
“Wow. Reassigning the last-place team the most weight to do, assigning yourself the least and then using the Express Pass is diiiiirty…. and I’m here for it. Lol,”an X user wrote.
“‘Let them win this battle, so we can win the war’ luv it. Burnt the Express Pass, and new TAR feature put a bigger target on frontrunners Jon/Ana,”wrote another.
“You gave yourself 15 pounds! You’re not even going to try it before using the Express Pass while some of these teams have to do 25,”commented one.
“Never use Express Pass when you’re in the lead!!!”wrote another.
Challenge Breakdown: What Jonathan and Ana Accomplished
During the episode, Jonathan and Ana’s early arrival allowed them to complete their initial task ahead of other teams, granting them an advantage in obtaining the first clue for the subsequent Roadblock challenge. For this particular task, one member had to thresh several pounds of rice, while they could allocate the threshing weights among the other teams due to their Driver’s Seat Advantage.
Despite their strategic decision to assign themselves the lightest burden, Jonathan and Ana opted to use their Express Pass, resulting in some unexpected shifts in the competition as Scott and Lori struggled with their heavier allotment of rice.
Following that, the duo made their way to the Detour Challenge, where they chose to decorate a bamboo pole with leaves and flowers. After a slight misstep on their first attempt, they successfully completed the decoration on their second try, securing them a first-place finish at the Pit Stop of the episode.
