Amazon MGM Studios Announces Release Date for *Verity* Adaptation
Amazon MGM Studios has officially scheduled the release of its highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s psychological thriller, *Verity*, for May 15, 2026. The project boasts a star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva, and Brady Wagner.
Strategic Timing in a Competitive Month
This release date is strategically positioned amidst a lineup of predominantly male-oriented blockbusters such as *The Mandalorian & Grogu* and *Avengers: Doomsday*, providing unique counter-programming options for audiences.
Creative Team Behind the Film
Michael Showalter, known for his work on *The Eyes of Tammy Faye*, will direct the film. The screenplay has been crafted by Nick Antosca, building on earlier contributions from writers Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, along with the duo Will Honley and April Maguire.
Synopsis of *Verity*
*Verity* follows the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is engaged by Jeremy Crawford to finish a series of novels written by his wife, Verity Crawford (played by Hathaway). Following a mysterious accident that leaves Verity incapacitated, Lowen uncovers a secret manuscript that may disclose disturbing truths about the Crawford family’s dark past.
Production Insights
The film is produced by a diverse group including Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, along with Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment, and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Lauren Levine of Heartbones Entertainment serves as an executive producer.
Colleen Hoover’s Literary Success
Colleen Hoover’s *Verity* was initially self-published in 2018 and later acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, eventually becoming a New York Times bestseller. This success follows a recent adaptation of her other novel, *It Ends With Us*, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, which enjoyed a successful box office run despite some controversy.
Upcoming Projects and Collaborations
Additionally, another of Hoover’s works, *Regretting You*, is being transformed into an indie film, featuring Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames.
Showalter previously collaborated with Hathaway in the Amazon MGM Studios project *The Idea of You*, which adapted Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name. His production company, Semi-Formal Productions, also holds a first-look deal with the studio.
As anticipation builds for *Verity*, fans of both the author and the psychological thriller genre have much to look forward to in 2026.
