TVING Adopts Account Sharing Restrictions Inspired by Netflix

TVING, a prominent South Korean OTT (over-the-top) streaming platform, has announced a new account sharing policy that mirrors Netflix’s strategy. As reported by My Daily on March 24, the service will restrict sharing accounts with non-family members, allowing only those within the same household to share subscriptions.

Currently, TVING imposes no restrictions on how viewers access content, regardless of location or device. However, these new regulations are set to roll out next month, requiring subscribers to officially register their home devices, such as TVs and tablets, as standard for viewing.

Details of TVING’s New Account Sharing Policy

Operated by TVING Corporation—a collaboration between CJ ENM’s Entertainment Division, Naver, and JTBC’s production company SLL—TVING provides an extensive library of content that includes sports, dramas, entertainment shows, animations, and exclusive films.

Under the new guidelines, users must register their household devices. Access to TVING’s offerings will only be permitted through these registered devices. Should an account be accessed from an unrecognized IP address, users will face identity verification challenges. Failure to verify their identity will result in restricted access to the platform’s content.

Exciting Upcoming Dramas on TVING for 2025

TVING has presented an exciting slate of dramas for 2025, starting with Study Group, an action-driven drama based on a popular webtoon. It chronicles the journey of Yoon Ga-min (portrayed by Hwang Min-hyun), a student who battles academic obstacles while excelling in martial arts. In a bid to turn his fortunes around, he forms a study group in a notoriously challenging school, promising a gripping narrative.

Study Group made its debut on January 23, 2025, with two episodes aired weekly on Thursdays for five weeks.

Another notable title is Wonkyung, a historical drama launched in January 2025, which traces the trials of Queen Won Kyung (played by Cha Joo-young) as she maneuvers through a complex power landscape alongside Lee Bang-won (Lee Hyun-wook). A prequel to this series is also in the pipeline.

The Scandal of Chunhwa, a royal romance, centers on Princess Hwa Ri (Go Ara), who defies traditional norms by selecting her marriage partner. Caught between her attraction to the ambitious Choi Hwan (Jang Ryul) and the scholarly Jang Won (Chani), who becomes her rival in love, this series premiered on February 6, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude on March 27, 2025, with a total of 10 episodes.

Additionally, TVING is excited to introduce I Am a Running Mate, a political drama penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Han Jin-won. This series navigates the unexpected twists of school politics as model student Sehun (Yoon Hyun-soo) unexpectedly becomes a running mate in an election campaign.

For younger audiences, A Week Before I Die offers a heartwarming fantasy romance. It follows Hee-wan (Kim Min-ha) as she embarks on a bucket list adventure during her final week of life—this series garnered significant acclaim at the Busan International Film Festival for its moving narrative.

Slated for 2025 is Dear X, a melodramatic thriller directed by the acclaimed Lee Eung-bok. It features Kim Yoo-jung as Baek A-jin, an actress concealing her identity, and Kim Young-dae as Yoon Joon-seo, a man willing to risk everything for her love.

Lastly, to enhance its action lineup, TVING will release Shark 2: The Storm, the sequel to Shark: The Beginning. This series promises a fierce confrontation between a former bullying victim who becomes an MMA champion (Kim Min-seok) and a merciless gangster (Lee Hyun-wook), set for release in the latter half of 2025.
