Among the new content, the Dried Ghast Block stands out as an innovative addition. This unique block can be found within the Nether, specifically in the Soul Sand Valley biome, nestled next to Nether fossils.

Visually, these blocks resemble smaller, frowning ghasts with four tentacles. Unlike traditional blocks, they have a reduced size, maintaining a mysterious allure that Mojang hinted at in their teaser videos preceding the announcement.

Players can interact with this block by waterlogging it, leading to the creation of a new ghast variant known as Ghastling. Effectively, the Dried Ghast Block acts as an egg that needs to be submerged in water for a few days to hatch the new creature.

The Ghastling emerges from the Dried Ghast Block after being waterlogged for several days. Unlike their sorrowful counterparts, the regular Nether ghasts, Ghastlings display cheerful smiles and raised eyebrows, creating a friendly demeanor.

This baby ghast variant features three charming red stripes along its sides that mimic fins and emits a softer sound compared to the traditional Nether ghast. Ghastlings are social and will hover around players, making them approachable companions in the game.

To encourage growth into their next stage, players can feed Ghastlings snowballs, transforming them into the even friendlier variant known as the Happy Ghast.

The transformation from Ghastling to Happy Ghast begins once the latter has been fed enough snowballs. This new variant is characterized by its joyful expression and is intended to thrive in the Overworld.

Players who nurture a Happy Ghast from a Dried Ghast Block will find that they can tame these creatures, allowing them to follow players around the vast landscapes of Minecraft while maintaining a passive disposition towards all game entities.

To facilitate riding Happy Ghasts, Mojang has introduced a novel item called the Harness, a saddle-like accessory specifically designed for these creatures. Crafted from three leather pieces, two glass blocks, and a wool block of any color, the Harness allows players to experience Minecraft from a new perspective.

Once a Happy Ghast is fitted with the Harness, it can carry up to four players as it soars through the skies, complete with a uniquely detailed design that enhances the gaming experience.
