Selena Gomez Reveals Why She Nearly Missed Benny Blanco’s Surprise Proposal

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco Share Proposal Story on The Tonight Show

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, now happily engaged, recently revealed the unexpected twists of their proposal day during their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The pair was celebrating the launch of their collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, when they took a moment to reflect on this significant milestone.

A Confusing Start to the Day

Gomez candidly shared that she had no idea the proposal was coming. On the morning of the event, she woke up under the impression that they were simply headed out for promotional activities related to their album. “Honestly, I felt really confused about our destination because it seemed quite far,”she admitted, mentioning her grumpy mood. “I didn’t feel like traveling too much that day,”she added.

A Miscommunication of Intentions

As the day progressed, Gomez informed Blanco of her plans to meet friends post-shoot. Blanco, sensing the tension, replied, “Uh, okay sure. We’ll see when you get here.” Reflecting on that moment, he admitted, “Of course, I was freaking out. She was mad. She almost didn’t come and said, ‘I really don’t feel well. Can’t we just reschedule?'”

The Difficulty of Keeping Secrets

Blanco expressed the overwhelming stress he faced, having to maintain the facade of normalcy leading up to the engagement. “Getting engaged is wild! Right before you propose, you must convince your partner that there’s nothing important happening,”Blanco explained. He continued, revealing the added pressure of discreetly concealing the engagement ring, which he had stashed in a box he believed no one would inspect.

“It was the scariest week of my life,”he remarked, emphasizing the emotional rollercoaster he experienced.

A Memorable, Yet Chaotic Proposal

Despite the chaos, Gomez and Blanco shared that they were so caught up in the moment of the proposal that they both “forgot everything.” As they look forward to their future together, they are currently not rushing into wedding planning. Gomez mentioned, “We’re moving very quickly. With everything happening, it feels like we don’t have time to sort out our marriage plans.” Blanco humorously added that with Gomez already donning a 35-pound dress at the Oscars, planning would have to wait.

A Joyful Musical Collaboration

The couple recently released their debut collaborative album, consisting of 15 tracks that reflect their journey together. “The music was enjoyable and also cathartic, allowing us to connect on a deeper level,” Gomez explained. Released through SMG Music, Friends Keep Secrets, and Interscope Records, the album explores their “present, past, and future” as a couple.
